Trump’s deal with the Taliban, explained – The Washington Post

February 2020, Trump announced that there was a deal. The basic contours: The United States was to get out of Afghanistan in 14 months and, in exchange, the Taliban agreed not to let Afghanistan become a haven for terrorists and to stop attacking U.S. service members.

The Taliban also agreed to start peace talks with the Afghan government and consider a cease-fire with the government. (The Taliban had been killing Afghan forces throughout this, attempting to use the violence as leverage in negotiations, U.S. intelligence officials believed.)

The deal laid out an explicit timetable for the United States and NATO to pull out their forces: In the first 100 days or so, they would reduce troops from 14,000 to 8,600 and leave five military bases. Over the next nine months, they would vacate all the rest. “The United States, its allies, and the Coalition will complete withdrawal of all remaining forces from Afghanistan within the remaining nine and a half (9.5) months,” the deal reads. “The United States, its allies, and the Coalition will withdraw all their forces from remaining bases.”

The United States would release 5,000 Taliban prisoners; the Taliban would release 1,000 of its prisoners.

(1) John Kelly Confirms Trump Called POWs ‘Suckers’ – YouTube

In a statement to CNN, former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly confirms allegations that Donald Trump called prisoners of war “suckers.” Trump is said to have made the remark at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day in 2017. Kelly also says Trump did not want to be seen with soldiers who were wounded in battle because “It doesn’t look good for me.”

https://www.presse-citron.net/cartier-accuse-dexploiter-limage-dune-tribu-amazonienne/

Trump, Biden spar on immigration, border during presidential debate – Los Angeles Times

Biden also said border crossings are trending downward. After record-high arrests at the end of last year, Border Patrol said preliminary data since Biden’s announcement showed arrests had fallen by 40%. May figures show arrests fell to the third lowest of any month throughout his presidency.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported that agents recovered remains of 895 migrants in fiscal year 2022, three times as many as were discovered in 2018. Advocates say the number is a vast undercount.

Trump has called for the mass deportation of immigrants in the country without authorization. He was asked how he would achieve that and whether such a policy would apply to the spouses of legal residents. He never directly answered the question, reiterating his claims about immigrants coming into the country.

Recipe: Zucchini Soup by Khashayar Parsi – Happiness Between Tails by da-AL

Hungry? Querying literary agents is hard work (about my novels here). The researching and the writing, the hoping and the waiting, are tough. Khashayar’s cooking, always creative, healthy, and tasty, nourishes body and soul.

He’s shared a bunch of recipes in the past here and here and here, and you can sample scads more when you type ‘recipe’ into the search bar.

Feel free to smack your lips as you peruse his latest…

Zucchini Soup by Khashayar Parsi

  • Chop and sauté 1 medium onion and 2 yellow zucchinis until slightly browned.
  • Add half a bulb of garlic, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and turmeric and sauté for 5 more minutes.
  • Add 1.5 quart of almond milk and cook for 15 minutes or till softened. Then purée.
  • Add 2 egg yolks to 0.5 quart of mushroom broth at room temperature, and mix thoroughly.
  • Add the broth to soup gradually and while mixing.
  • Add 2 julienned zucchinis and cook for 10 minutes.

By itself, I recommend putting a grilled slice of bread with cheese in a bowl and putting the soup over it.

Bon appétit!
