China sends glacial water from Tibet to the Maldives, raising concerns — Radio Free Asia

“I have heard that China is donating bottled water from Tibet to other parts of the world for free for political gain,” said one source from the Tibet Autonomous Region, where Chinese authorities have carried out water conservation campaigns for over a decade.

“However, in Tibet, the local Tibetans do not have enough drinking water,” he said. “At times there isn’t enough water to even brush our teeth.”

On March 27, the same day the Maldives said it received the first batch of water, the Water Conservancy Bureau of Ngari Prefecture, or Ali in Chinese, the birthplace of key South Asian rivers, began a series of year-long events for the general public to promote water conservation.

Pulso Firme – Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

Women’s Strike 6/24/2024 | Women’s March

No spending, No work, No school
On the 2nd anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, girls, women, and allies go on strike. Participants do not go to work, do not go to school, and/or do not spend even 1 penny. As our privacy, body autonomy, healthcare, and travel rights are being removed, we remove ourselves for 1 day en masse. We stand together for all Americans to show that the nation needs us.

H5N1 Is Increasingly Adapting to Mammals | UC Davis

Highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza viruses are becoming increasingly flexible and are adapting to mammals in new ways that could have global consequences for humans, wildlife and livestock, according to a new study of a massive outbreak among elephant seals in Argentina in 2023.

The study, published as a preprint and co-led by University of California, Davis’ School of Veterinary Medicine and the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) in Argentina, shows clear mammal-to-mammal transmission of the virus. It states the outbreak is the first known, multinational transmission of the virus in mammals ever observed globally, with the same virus appearing in several pinniped species across different countries over a short period of time.

The study’s genomic analysis showed the virus is now evolving into separate avian and marine mammal clades in South America, which is unprecedented. There is growing concern that H5N1 viruses adapted to mammal transmission could jump to other species, including people…
