É preciso ter asas… – O Outro Lado

quando se ama o abismo
Nietzsche

Jean,

Mariana

Escrita – Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

The United States says Hamas is holding five Americans who were taken hostage in the group’s deadly Oct. 7 incursion inside Israel, which prompted Israel’s massive retaliation. Officials are hoping to recover the bodies of three other Americans who were killed that day, NBC reported…

Forgiving and Forgetting

by Dawn Pisturino

Whispers on the wind
Sent sweet bouquets and promises
Of unfulfilled desires,
Caressing resting embers
Into walls of wildfires
That shook my heart awake.
You called to me and said,
It’s time to join the living.
Your love is far from dead. . .

AHRQ survey: 7% of US adults reported having long COVID by early 2023 | CIDRAP

New findings from a US survey from Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) scientists concludes that 6.9% of US adults—or almost 18 million adults—have ever had long COVID as of early 2023, confirming the results of previous surveys.

AHRQ fielded the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) to a sample of 17,418 adults, which extrapolates to 259 million adults. The research was published late last week in JAMA.

Sex, age, and racial risk factors

A total of 8,275 respondents reported a history of COVID-19 infection, of whom 1,202 said they had long-COVID symptoms, extrapolating to 17.8 million (6.9%) of all Americans.

Across age-groups, women were more likely than men to report having long COVID (8.6% vs 5.1%). Young and older adults were less likely than adults aged 35 to 64 years to report long COVID, which the authors said may be due to younger people’s generally better health and high rates of COVID-19 vaccination and low COVID-19 rates among older people…

Is it feasible to use blue carbon to finance mangrove conservation in Trinidad and Tobago? · Global Voices

This story was first published on the Cari-Bois Environmental News Network. An edited version appears below as part of a content-sharing agreement.

A blue carbon credit system is being piloted in Trinidad and Tobago. Led by the country’s Institute of Marine Affairs (IMA) in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the project aims to design a high-quality blue carbon credit scheme to improve the digital mapping, monitoring, reporting, and verification of ecosystem services. It also hopes to promote the management and ownership of natural capital in order to create practical opportunities for generating revenue and enhancing livelihoods.

Marine ecosystems — particularly tidal marshes, seagrass beds, and mangrove forests — absorb and store carbon within biomass and soils. Commonly referred to as “blue carbon” ecosystems because of their relevance to the global carbon cycle, these marine ecosystems provide climate mitigation benefits and a range of other ecosystem services that support coastal livelihoods and adaptation to climate change.

Studies have shown that mangroves absorb and store carbon at higher rates when compared to other ecosystems. As such, mangrove forests are among the most carbon-rich ecosystems in the tropics and some of the most efficient long-term natural carbon stores…
