Indigenous Alaskans drive research in a melting arctic

Continuing with the series of (ahem) Famine related posts. We move down along the north quays. Mooring off the Custom House Quay rest the Jeanie Johnston. This is a replica of a three-masted barque that was originally built in Quebec, Canada, in 1847 by the Scottish-born shipbuilder John Munn. It is now being used as a floating living history museum which covers the famine era. Apparently, it can also be used as an ocean-going sail training vessel although I have yet to see it set sail to date…
