Fokus auf Abfall / … Focus on waste (garbage) – Stella, oh, Stella

… Some municipalities here in Denmark are really committed to sorting waste. In our former municipality we only had two containers: plastic/metal, cardboard/paper, residual waste and bio waste. Here we have one more for glass and milk cartons, as well as the red box for dangerous waste like chemicals and batteries. I am in favour of waste sorting, but, when I read that 72% of the collected plastic waste is being burnt anyway, I get a bit miffed and feel duped. In the USA it is even said to be 90%. And plastic waste fills a lot in Denmark; everything is packed in plastic. That could be at least reduced by half.

… When I buy veggies in the supermarket, I usually don’t take a plastic bag, as I wash my veggies or fruit before I use it resp. eat it. If everybody brought this problem up in their supermarkets, I am sure things would change, just like the matter with the eco-eggs.

What’s The Hardest Thing To Find? – Belladonna’s Flashlight

My advice to all my BEAUTIFUL Moms!

Throughout my life, I have lost countless things. Although some of them have been recovered, many have vanished forever. Looking for something is stressful because you know you probably will never find it.

However, one of the hardest things for me to find has been myself, and I have lost myself more than once.

Motherhood consumes every bit of you, and because of that, we lose ourselves!…

Weekend FOTD 12th May 2024: Alium Siculum/Honey Garlic | Chronicles of an Anglo Swiss

Another one of those plants that suddently appeared in my garden about 5 years ago. I have no idea where it came from and after searching for a name found that it was some sort of allium, like garlic or onion. It does smell a bit in that direction, but not too strong. I am quite pleased to have, especially as it begins to grow regularly some time in March Now it has burst open and showing its many buds of flowers.

Three people killed and 12 wounded in shooting at Alabama May Day party | Alabama | The Guardian

The mass shooting in Alabama was only one instance of high-profile gun violence seen in the US over the weekend, which culminated in Mother’s Day on Sunday.

Three Atlanta police officers were hospitalized with gunshot wounds after a confrontation that left a suspect dead Saturday evening, authorities said.

And in Euclid, Ohio, a police officer was shot and killed after being “ambushed” while answering a disturbance call, and a suspect was being sought, authorities said Sunday.

Happy Mother Earth Day – Petchary’s Blog

We all love Mother’s Day.

I think about my mother and miss her, but in that respect every day is Mother’s Day. The same for my dear mother-in-law, who passed away on Labour Day last year; today is our first Mother’s Day without her. Jamaicans try not to miss anyone out, and recognise sisters, and aunties, and grandmothers, with or without children. Very nice. I hope everyone had a lovely day.

I am more concerned about Mother Earth. She is our nurturer, our protector, and like a human mother she tries to accommodate us as best she can. She gives, and gives, until she cannot give any more because her heart is ruined and her body is torn apart. And yet, without her we are nothing…

Mother’s Day and Political Memes | Filosofa’s Word

Today is Mother’s Day here in the U.S.  Having been out with the girls for several hours yesterday, then not getting to bed until after 4:00 a.m., I overslept today.  Therefore I am, once again, behind on everything and so for this afternoon I’ll simply share with you a few of the political memes I’ve come across over the past week.  I especially like the ones about the cat and about the presidential goals.  Happy Mother’s Day!

The rage epidemic: is our modern world fuelling aggression? – Stigmatis

After the video of Peter Abbott screaming road-rage abuse through a car window went viral, we ask what’s behind the fury so many feel – and express

Peter Abbott’s abusive tirade was captured on video by the subject of his anger, TV producer Samantha Isaacs, from inside her car. Photograph: BNPS

Last week a video showing 60-year-old Peter Abbott screaming abuse at TV producer Samantha Isaacs gained a viral audience, after Abbott was found guilty at Poole magistrates court of “using threatening words or behaviour to cause alarm, distress or fear of violence”.

In the phone-filmed video, Abbott is seen snarling and shouting as he presses his face up against Isaacs’ car window. He looks as if he’s channelling the Harry Enfield character Angry Frank, so cartoonishly aggressive are his contorted facial expressions and confrontational behaviour. Not only did he hammer on Isaacs’ car but he also called her a “slag” and a “whore”.

When another male driver pointed out the terrible optics of bullying a woman, he replied: “She’s a fucking bloody annoying woman.”

Is the image of Abbott’s dyspeptic face just a freeze frame of a freak incident or a reflection of an unpleasant and growing aspect of modern life? Aaron Balick, a psychotherapist and author of The Psychodynamics of Social Networking, believes that new technologies have ushered in an era in which “there are more ways to express anger” and there is less shame attached to its expression. He also attributes this cultural shift to politicians such as Donald Trump who have “normalised” anger.

According to the Gallup Global Emotions Report, anger around the world has been rising since 2016, with 23% of respondents now feeling angry on any given day – figures are understandably much higher in war zones.
