This was Feargal Sharkey’s only UK . It was produced by Dave Stewart from The Eurythmics. Sharkey was an Ulsterman who was lead vocalist of the Irish punk band The Undertones. After recording three solo albums, he gave up music and by 1993 had established himself as A&R Manager for Polydor Records. He continued to work in this side of the industry, and in 1998 was appointed a member of the Radio Authority. He went on to become the British government’s live music adviser.

This was the opening track on Feargal Sharkey’s self-titled debut album.

The song was written by Maria McKee who, at the time, was the frontperson for the group Lone Justice.  She wrote the song about her relationship with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboard player Benmont Tench.  Interestingly, Sharkey’s next single, You Little Thief, was written by none other than Benmont Tench who claimed it was about his side of the relationship with Maria McKee.  He later denied that, though, so … who knows?

The other part of the reason I was not familiar with Mr. Sharkey or this song is that while it charted at in numerous countries including the UK, Australia, the Netherlands and Belgium, it only made it to #74 in the U.S.!  It made it to in Canada.

Humanismo – Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

Recentemente, eu escrevi um texto sobre humanismo ( encontra-se no blog), e você pode inclusive conferir. E um colega teceu um comentário bonito, transparente até, a respeito do fato de estarmos aqui e ter consciência de que não vivemos numa redoma de vidro (…), sabendo que temos ligações muito mais profunda com “o outro ” e com “os outros”. No final, me parabenizou por pensar nas outras pessoas sempre com  preocupação, com um olhar de humanidade, compreender o que sente  e me colocar no lugar  delas. Bacana isso, digo ” você conseguir olhar para o outro, vê- lo numa situação de fragilidade e estender a mão” sem parecer a  pessoa” boazinha” ou ” bobinha” da história…Como muitos dizem. Não é assim que as coisas acontecem. Nem tudo mundo nasce com a natureza perversa de querer tirar vantagem de tudo e todos. A gente precisa entender à mão, auxiliar, e dependendo da situação, oferecer um pedaço de pão, uma xícara de café ( o que não nos deixa mais pobre) para “quem já desistiu muitas vezes dos sonhos”, menos da vida. Sim, porque ainda luta pela sobrevivência. Precisamos compreender que às vezes, o meu, o seu gesto de humanidade…  É que faz diferença na vida daquela pessoa.
