Who is thought to be behind the Moscow attack? | Moscow concert hall attack | The Guardian

…IS leaders, like many Islamic militants, are mindful of Russian support for the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria, and see Moscow as part of the broader coalition of Christian or western forces against Islam. This is a key point made by IS propaganda from Pakistan to Nigeria.

In September 2022, ISKP militants claimed responsibility for a deadly suicide bombing at the Russian embassy in Kabul and some experts say the group has opposed the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, in recent years. Michael Kugelman, of the Washington-based Wilson Center, said ISKP “sees Russia as being complicit in activities that regularly oppress Muslims” and counts as members a number of central Asian militants with their own grievances against Moscow.

ISKP leaders may also see Russia, along with China and others as important to the continued rule of the Taliban and are seeking to undermine them. An attack in Moscow would thus combine local and more global agendas.

Rep. Kevin Kiley faces complaint over Prop. 47 overhaul contributions – Los Angeles Times

The former chair of the Federal Election Commission has filed a complaint against a California congressman, alleging he excessively used campaign funds to support a conservative coalition seeking to roll back parts of Proposition 47.

“I’ve never seen anything quite this excessive, honestly,” Ann Ravel told The Times. She served as chair of the California Fair Political Practices Commission in 2011 and as chair of the FEC from 2013 to 2017.

In her FEC complaint, Ravel alleges that Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-Rocklin), who is up for reelection this year, has solicited and spent congressional funds in excess of the $5,000 legal limit to support the tough-on-crime initiative to reform Proposition 47, which reduced some drug and theft felonies to misdemeanors. Kiley spent $28,000 on petitions and mailing costs, according to the complaint, but Ravel alleges that is “likely not the full extent” of his financial support.

Garden of Hearts – Kaushal Kishore

In the garden of hearts, connections bloom,

From tender affection, they find their room…

With words that sway and thoughts that flow,

Communication’s breeze helps them grow…

*

Empathy’s whispers, a comforting sound,

In every bond, its echo is necessarily found…

Embraced within, where emotions dwell,

Connections deepen, with each inner spell…

*

But doubts and shadows, slowly encroach,

Tainting the bonds, with their toxic approach…

Beware the weeds of misunderstanding’s blight,

That smother tender bonds, stealing the light…

*

Ego and arrogance, like a frost’s cruel sting,

Wither petals, snaps each delicate string…

Conceit, a barrier that clouds every view,

Leaving the hearts frigid, feelings askew…

*

So tend to this garden, with care and grace,

Nurture each flower, in this sacred space…

For in the heart’s garden, relationships thrive,

Beyond the grasp of any app or a pendrive…

*
