Israeli human rights groups accuse country of failing to abide by ICJ’s Gaza aid ruling | Israel-Gaza war | The Guardian

Twelve of Israel’s most prominent human rights organisations have signed an open letter accusing the country of failing to comply with the international court of justice’s (ICJ) provisional ruling that it should facilitate access of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

The court in The Hague made a number of legal requirements of Israel when it issued a provisional ruling in late January in response to South Africa’s complaint accusing the state of committing genocide in its military campaign in Gaza.

The requirements included taking all measures to prevent intentional harm to civilians, facilitating immediate humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, preventing and punishing direct or public incitement to genocide, and preserving evidence of any wrongful acts committed during the country’s war against Hamas…

Last week, the leading Republican candidate in the 2024 elections met with Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orbán.  Orbán is a dictator, pure and simple, and here is what the candidate said after their meeting …

“There’s nobody that’s better, smarter or a better leader than Viktor Orban. He’s a noncontroversial figure because he says, ‘This is the way it’s going to be,’ and that’s the end of it. Right? He’s the boss. No, he’s a great leader.”

If that isn’t enough to chill you to the bone, then I don’t know what is.  Our friend Keith has some thoughts on the topic that I think are well worth sharing and pondering.  Some of you may have already read Keith’s post, but he has added some information today in his “Notes to readers” that is worth reading.  Thank you, Keith … we must keep trying to open the eyes of those who think this is somehow acceptable, or even ‘exciting’.

Songs I Like (6) | beetleypete

The Scottish band called Texas has nothing to do with America, despite the name. Fronted by lead vocalist Charlene Spiteri, they formed in 1986 and released their first album in 1989, enjoying immediate chart success. Charlene’s distinctive vocals paired with some great songwriting ensured they remain popular until this day.

I like a lot of their songs, but this one from 1997 is my favourite.

Solving the Plastic Pollution and other Environmental Pollution Issues in a Great Way – FunWritings

The plastic pollution problem has grown over many years even though the plan to reuse, reduce and recycle was advertised as a solution. It is becoming clear that without a new way to build environmental protection awareness; we will not see the change we need to have. Unfortunately we have all developed habits based on the things we use each day. Such as the single-use-plastic and other things we have used to improve in differen ways our lives since we began using plastic. Decreasing pollution should be linked with a new way to encourage everyone to develop new eco-friendly habits…
