Former Republican legislative candidate pleads guilty to role in the US Capitol riot | AP News
A former Republican legislative candidate pleaded guilty to assaulting law enforcement officers during the U.S. Capitol riot, officials said.
Matthew Brackley, 40, of Waldoboro, Maine, traveled to Washington for former President Donald Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally on Jan. 6, 2021, entered the U.S. Capitol and asked for the location of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office before shouting “Let’s go!” and using his elbows to push past police officers, according to prosecutors. His group was stopped by again by police before chemical spray was used to break up the demonstrators, prosecutors said.
Brackley will be sentenced May 14 in Washington, D.C., after reaching an agreement in which he pleaded guilty Thursday to assaulting, resisting or impeding law enforcement officers. The crime carries a maximum penalty of eight years in prison.

UAWire – Czech Republic seeks funding to supply millions of ammunition rounds to Ukraine (Me: are you listening US GOP!!!)
Czech Republic has identified a way to procure 3.5 million rounds of ammunition for Ukraine but needs funding to do so, said the country’s president, Petr Pavel at the “Ukrainian Lunch”, hosted by the Pinchuk Foundation in Munich.
Speaking during a panel discussion involving leaders from five EU member states, Pavel addressed the challenges related to supplying arms and ammunition to the Ukrainian forces. He stated that Prague has devised a means to arrange such deliveries.
“We need to support Ukraine by sourcing ammunition from all possible outlets. We must be as innovative and flexible as the Ukrainian soldiers, searching for military equipment everywhere,” he explained.
Pavel highlighted that Czechia “is seeking military supplies worldwide and then works with our NATO partners,” specifically noting Denmark, the Netherlands, and Canada for providing the resources to facilitate the transport of military equipment to Czechia. “And then we rapidly forward it to Ukraine,” he added.
“Currently, we have found half a million 155mm caliber rounds and 3 million 122mm caliber rounds that we can send to Ukraine within a few weeks if we secure the funding for it. We will be reaching out to partners in the USA, Germany, Sweden, and others for this assistance,” Pavel announced.

Kremlin runs covert disinformation campaign to undermine Zelensky – The Washington Post
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s administration ordered a group of Russian political strategists to use social media and fake news articles to push the theme that Zelensky “is hysterical and weak. … He fears that he will be pushed aside, therefore he is getting rid of the dangerous ones.”
The Kremlin instruction resulted in thousands of social media posts and hundreds of fabricated articles, created by troll farms and circulated in Ukraine and across Europe, that tried to exploit what were then rumored tensions between the two Ukrainian leaders, according to a trove of Kremlin documents obtained by a European intelligence service and reviewed by The Washington Post. The files, numbering more than 100 documents, were shared with The Post to expose for the first time the scale of Kremlin propaganda targeting Zelensky with the aim of dividing and destabilizing Ukrainian society — efforts that Moscow dubbed “information psychological operations.”

White House decries anti-Muslim attacks on judicial nominee – AsAmNews
“The attack ad targeting Mr. Mangi is dishonest, disgusting and brimming with anti-Muslim bigotry,” said CAIR Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell, in a statement Friday. “Insinuating that an accomplished American Muslim attorney is a terrorist sympathizer is classic Islamophobia, despicable, and must be condemned.”
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which combats antisemtitism, has also spoken out against what it called “the inappropriate and prejudicial treatment” of Mangi.
