The final defendant tied to the firebombing of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Costa Mesa pleaded guilty Thursday for his role in that crime and for another plot to damage Orange County’s power grid.

Tibet Ergul, 22, pleaded guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to damage an energy facility and intentional damage to a Reproductive Health Services Facility. He was one of three suspects arrested in connection with the 2022 attack on the clinic.

Ergul’s co-defendants, Xavier Batten, of Brooksville, Fla., and Chance Brannon, of San Juan Capistrano, also pleaded guilty in recent months. Ergul had been slated to go to trial in March.

Yesterday Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that he will be stepping down from his leadership position at the end of this year.  Note that he is not retiring from the Senate, only from his leadership role.  It is tempting, at first glance, to feel empathy for Mitch who has some obvious health problems as well as problems with his own cohorts in the Senate who seem to feel that Mitchie isn’t quite radical enough, not quite committed enough to Trump and the far-right agenda.  But a reminder of all the damage Mitch has done throughout the years quickly erases much of that empathy, as Robert Reich reminds us in his newsletter today.  BUT … let the buyer beware … there is a nightmare in the last sentence.

Where there is so much pouring of ink 
We can write and just be ourselves 
with each stroke of letter, draw on each other’s strength 
we can share our thoughts for what they are worth 
forgetting there is sadness and just feeling the mirth 
in the flow of emotions that we continue to share 
we unlock our hearts to no longer feel despair 
we can’t see each other yet we can connect 
across oceans, seas, in places, with poetry we reflect 
scribed on WordPress scrolls, memories get filed 
the poetry I read here has me beguiled. 
Finding inspiration and hope from fellow poets 
they pull me out when I am at my lowest 
we can rhyme without reason and reason without rhyme 
this rhyme and reason helps me dream big-time
this trail of poetry from me to you 
across your world to mine , our smiles we renew.
