Moments We Yearn – Kaushal Kishore

(4 overlapping profiles of people in black and white)

Leaves of life, one by one they fall,

Near or distant, they all heed the call…

A void they leave, unknown and untold,

Within memories’ depths, their tales unfold…

*

Affection and disaffection, a dual flight,

Somewhere they vanish, out of sight…

In shadows they slip to a distant abode,

Traces elusive, in mystery they’re stowed…

*

Moments we yearn, like echoes they chime,

Shifting from nothing to something sublime…

Nowhere to somewhere, a subtle ballet,

In the recess of mind and heart, they sway…

*

They find a residence within our mental domain,

A place where emotions softly sit and reign…

Nowhere and somewhere, an art profound,

In the canvas of time, roles shifting around…

*

Our certainty lies where memories reside,

In the corridors of time, a sentimental guide…

In the theatre of thought, they play their part,

An enigma of existence, a symphony of the heart…

A touching soul ballad that I first heard (and immediately bought) at the age of 14. If anything, I like it even more now than I did then, and it is rightly considered to be a classic in the genre. Covered many times by other singers, this is the original version.

Aaron Neville is still recording, at the age of 82.
