Civil society’s Open Letter to Jamaica’s Parliament urges care in reviewing amendments to childcare legislation

Petchary's Blog

It has always seemed to me that the Jamaican attitude towards children who are “acting out” and behaving badly has been quite Dickensian (child abuse and neglect, corporal punishment and more are major features of some of Dickens’ novels – but then that was nineteenth century England). It seems that we are now slowly moving away from this colonial mindset, but – perhaps not fast enough.

“Victims of child abuse will now have access to a state-of-the-art facility in which to receive the care necessary for recovery. The Child Protection and Family Services Agencies Therapeutic Centre is a groundbreaking achievement in the English-speaking Caribbean,” said Prime Minister Andrew Holness, as he proudly opened the facility (the first of two) on the grounds of Maxfield Park Children’s Home in Kingston. Meanwhile, State Minister in the Ministry of National Security Juliet Cuthbert Flynn toured the Metcalfe Street Secure Juvenile Remand Centre, which…

Life Slipped Through Fingers

Anita's Perspectives on Life

Photo by ROMAN ODINTSOV on Pexels.com

Every moment felt so small,

As time just seemed to slip and crawl,

A world so vast, and yet so tight,

A place where dreams and hopes took flight.

The minutes, they just slipped away,

As we went through the motions, day by day,

And though we tried to make them count,

They slipped through our fingers, without a sound.

Every moment felt so fleeting,

As we moved through life’s constant beating.

And though we tried to hold on tight,

We just couldn’t keep them in our sight.

But still they slipped away, like sand,

And we wondered if we’d ever understand.

Every moment felt so small,

But still, we found a way to stand tall.

In each second, there’s a chance,

To make a difference, and to dance.

Though the moments may seem small,

They’re what make us, one and all.

What can you say

Lolsys Library

I keep thinking how to write what I’ve seen happening in America, but what can you say?

I think I understand a lot of my readers and we’re all thinking the same thing. It is wrong what’s happened with the Supreme Court, but what can we do about it?

These are only suggestions that I can make to my fellow Americans. Vote in EVERYTHING. Every school, state, council election. Vote. Never not vote.

Don’t listen to the “Oh Trump wont get back in” or “DeSatanis will never be voted in”. You all said that with Trump! Don’t start that now. Vote, vote like either one of those two will get in.

At this point, there’s not really much else one can do other than encourage others to start voting. Start voting blue no matter. Its one of things I like about being Australia, once you turn 18, you have to…

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

“Em minha vida, alguns valores são inegociáveis. “

Independence Day 4. Juli
