The Endless Chain

The Twisting Tail

And if you don’t love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain

Fleetwood Mac

The Endless Chain

Crack the endless chain
With each atom enclosed
As a shackled wheel in the grain
As elements of fate imposed

From the dauntless scuttle
From an immeasurable height
Rapid as a hole in the head
Success emerges in outward flight

forged on the journey
strings of flaming chariots
pierce the dark heavens

The hidden signature wind may find
Forms the theory light will bind

Unite a pantheon
in patience
Experience
enduring caress
Sense
Without knowledge
of duress

left to germanate
common links
forgotten in march

From sleep
The drift
The dip
Gradual does the branch grow limp
Plum heavy and overripe
seeds sour and frosts that bite
The season knows
The time and
The way
Of sunsets and resting places

Hospital

Coisas da SIL

Aqui sentada dentro do hospital
Passei pelos longos e estreitos becos
Me perdi, me assustei, me arrepiei.

With love: Coisas da SiL

Hospital

Sitting here inside the hospital
I passed through the long and narrow alleys
I got lost, I got scared, I shivered.

What a strange place, what a strange sound.
What a strange feeling.

It has no color, the joy comes out little by little between pains and groans.

People are silent, the smell of nothing.
Hope springs up and disappears a shelf of time.

I’m just here and watching.
I also…

POETRY, PASTRIES, & PIES PODCAST: A Poetic Trilogy on Being a Woman with Michele Lee Sefton

From Behind the Pen

Poetry merging with art to create a poetic symphony of transformative stages of celebrating the life and times of a woman is what this poetic trilogy delivers throughout the Being a Woman series from author Michele Lee Sefton. This journey began with her poem “My Curves” which was a therapeutic composition moving from humiliation to empowerment.

As I spoke to Michele about each collection in her trilogy, starting with chapbooks Overcoming, Becoming, and finally completing her series with Forthcoming, she managed to tap into voices from her childhood to her maturity as a woman and adult, and finally listening to the voices of the past, from her family and well-known historical figures to deliver an emotionally-charged celebration of womanhood.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is sammilee.jpgI adore her poetry/art collaboration with her artist daughter Sammi Lee, as you comb through each page of each collection. Sammi’s illustrations are beautifully interpreted through the eyes of a generational…

Moon-bound

watery vowels
a sea filled with ancient tales
liquid sky arches
a horizon that unravels
waves prance, curling into
a bed of sand, like
blue irises promenading my steps
moana of gliding turquoise blossoms
ebb and flow to a meandering, pursuing moon ..

I walk into the flare of a lighthouse
a rush of salt on my breath

the sea the day I conquered my tears..

Risotto Tomato Basil

snapshotsincursive

What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? Table Food: Risotto Tomato Basil! When the rice cooker is on the fritz, and you’re still craving risotto, try the next best thing. There’s no shame in using a boxed version as a foundation for a meal in-a-bowl. After all, these tried and true products are on the shelf for a reason. Most have perfected the art of imitation to the point where one might ask which is better. True, the homemade version does involve a certain finesse for stirring at a crucial time, exerting more energy than otherwise, but who’s the wiser? In the end, let your stomach be the judge.

RISOTTO TOMATO BASIL

5.5 ounce box Garlic Primavera Risotto, gluten-free

1/2 tablespoon olive oil

2 1/2 cups water

1/3 cup parmesan cheese, grated

Fresh basil, for garnish

Good People Doing Good Things — Mama Shu

Filosofa's Word

Today, I want you to meet Mama Shu, a beautiful woman who turned her own grief into something positive for her community.  Mama Shu is Shamayim Harris of Highland Park, Michigan.  In 2007, her 2-year-old son, Jakobi Ra, was struck and killed in a hit-and-run in Highland Park.

“I literally thought that I wouldn’t be able to function or be alive or anything,” she recalled.

As she faced her profound grief, she also discovered her strong determination to channel it into something good. For the last 15 years, her trauma has fueled her mission to transform her struggling, neglected community into a vibrant village.

“I needed to … change grief into glory, pain into power. I just tried to transform it into something bearable and something beautiful.”

And transform, she did!

I think I’ll just let Mama Shu tell you her story in her own words, for she brings it…
