Ships That Pass in the Night

Science-Backed Reasons to Read a (Real) Book

There’s nothing like the smell of old books or the crack of a new one’s spine. (Plus, you’ll never run low on battery.) As it turns out, diving into a page-turner can also offer benefits for your health and happiness. There’s nothing like the glow of a desk lamp on white pages. Although more and more people own e-books and subscribe to services like Audible on Amazon, it seems safe to say that real books aren’t going anywhere yet, and these benefits of reading are here to stay. (Pick up one of these great books for any mood if you need a recommendation.)

Eighty-eight percent of the Americans who read e-books continue to read printed ones as well. And while we’re all for the convenience of digital downloads and a lighter load, we can’t bring ourselves to part with the joy of…

Flower-Bee Dialogue

Kaushal Kishore

The flower asked the bee,
“Don’t you mind humans
stealing the honey
you make by collecting nectar
from flower to flower?”
Replied the bee,
“Man does not know
the art of making honey,
he can only do
what he knows…”

Act 372, which was signed into law by Arkansas Gov. Sarah Sanders, says librarians can be imprisoned for up to a year for giving children reading materials that are deemed to be “harmful to minors.”
