The high cost of the Supreme Court’s decision banning affirmative action, explained – Vox

The Supreme Court, or rather the six justices appointed by Republican presidents, decided on Thursday to ignore the combined wisdom of many of the military’s seniormost former leaders, the shared wisdom of dozens of America’s greatest businesses, and the combined insights of the medical profession — not to mention the views of two of America’s greatest universities, both of which believed that students who are educated on more diverse campuses receive an inherently superior education that better prepares them for careers in business, medicine, the military, or elsewhere. ♫ Help! ♫

Filosofa's Word

Tonight I wanted to play something by the Beatles, but I wanted one I had never played here before.  You wouldn’t believe how hard that was to find!  I had no idea how many Beatles’ songs I’ve played here over the years!  I was actually amazed … had to double and triple check my archives … to find that I hadn’t played this one yet!  It would be easier to tell you the countries where this did NOT hit than the countries where it did, for nearly every nation for which rankings are kept ranked it with the exceptions of Belgium and Austria, where it only went to .

Some interesting trivia about this song from SongFacts …

This was used as the title song to Beatles’ second movie. The original title to the song and the movie was “Eight Arms To Hold You,” and the first copies…

The Supreme Court Strikes Down Affirmative Action | 3CHICSPOLITICO

Sotomayor: …”The Court subverts the constitutional guarantee of equal
protection by further entrenching racial inequality in education, the very foundation of our democratic government and pluralistic society. Because the Court’s opinion is not grounded in law or fact and contravenes the vision of equality embodied in the Fourteenth Amendment, I dissent…” Source: The Supreme Court Strikes Down Affirmative Action | 3CHICSPOLITICO

You Never Know|شما هرگز نمی دانید

A Voice from Iran

“182nd story”

First published: Mar.11.2021

Once upon a time,

There lived an old man in a village.

One of the days his horse ran away and disappeared. Losing his horse was very hard for him.

People of the village said: “You are a very unlucky person, and we feel so sorry for you.”

The old man replied: “You never know.”

The next day the old man’s horse came back along with a few wild horses and now his one horse became so many.

The people of the village said: “You are a very lucky man.”

The old man replied: “You never know.”

The old man’s son tried to tame the wild horses and fell off one of them, and broke his leg.

People of the village said: “You are a very unlucky person.”

The old man only had one answer: “You never know.”

The next day the king announced that…

The Assult of Insults

From Behind the Pen

Just when you think insults and bullying couldn’t get any worse, well it’s no surprise that it does. People are unfiltered, saying whatever crass things blurt from the crevices of their mouths with no empathy or compassion to soften their blows. When we see children committing bullish patterns of speech, we want to chastise them. But are they only mimicking what they hear adults say and watch what adults do?

How do we expect them to be a model citizen if those adults in their lives act like deranged, spiteful, and hateful lunatics?

What has happened to one’s conscience
where incredulous words spew like flying daggers
stabbing wounds of damning insults
piercing the spirit like venom from an asp

poisonous words and menacing actions
dart through the air like torpedoes of scorpion stingers
from a tongue so small, yet so powerful
dripping from lips plastered with ashes from infernos.

Latest COVID origin report largely debunks the ‘lab-leak’ theory

Today, Americans are more likely to believe that the novel coronavirus, which causes Covid, came from a lab rather than from an animal infecting a human, even though most studies overwhelmingly suggest the opposite. For months, proponents of the idea that the novel coronavirus escaped from a lab have been hotly anticipating a declassified U.S. intelligence report on the origin of the pandemic. Now the report is out… and it was kind of a dud for the “lab leak” theory. Source: Latest COVID origin report largely debunks the ‘lab-leak’ theory
