Dreams Growing in a Fertile Place

From Behind the Pen

Can dreams change, and can you still dream a new dream regardless of your age? My dreams in my twenties shifted when I reached my thirties, transformed when I entered my forties, and changed again when I saw the dawning of my fifties. When I entered my sixties I recalibrated my life lessons to a new place of reality and new dreams, at a different time, and with a changed me.
Aside from aging and the flow of the unexpected, I found myself shedding the old familiar. It began soaking in that I am now my parent’s generation and what I dreamt of through the decades, has changed dramatically and drastically. I don’t put undue pressure on myself like I used to because I don’t need to. I focus on the present, and the opportunities it offers. While there are new challenges, my tree of life isn’t finished. I still…

How energy efficient are the cooking appliances in your kitchen

Darcy Hitchcock

This article was written for British households but the relative cost and energy consumption should be equivalent in other countries.

  • Electric oven: Typical cost per use: £0.27
  • Slow cooker: Typical cost per use: £0.26
  • Air fryer: Typical cost per use: £0.07
  • Microwave: Typical cost per use: £0.04
  • Hob (aka burners, hot plates): Typical cost per use: £0.01 to £0.02

Of course, these appliances perform different functions. You’re not going to cook the Thanksgiving turkey in a countertop air fryer or cookies in your slow cooker. But clearly you’re better to make a pot of soup on the stove than in the slow cooker and then reheat it in the microwave.

With all these appliances, there are things you can do to minimize energy use. Here are a few tips.

Jolly Picnic Monday!!!

Filosofa's Word

Good Monday morning, dear friends!   Did you have a wonderful weekend and now I bet you can hardly wait to get back to work, back to the weekly routine!  Our weekend was quieter than usual, for daughter Chris was in Tennessee at a band competition.  Her band took 3rd place overall, and the drum corps, of which she is part, won 1st place, so she was pretty chuffed!  Goose and I, as usual, had a quieter-than-usual weekend, for Chris is the noisy one of our bunch!  Goose and I sometimes forget to even speak to each other for hours on end!  I did manage to watch Judgement at Nuremberg — all 3 hours and 10 minutes in one sitting and didn’t fall asleep a single time!  I’ve had that on my TBW list for years and finally can cross it off.  Well worth watching, if you haven’t seen it, and…

Open Thread | Leave Senator Feinstein Alone | 3CHICSPOLITICO

Tired of all the articles about Senator Feinstein.

Here is the bottom line:

The most important thing about the Senator is her seat on the Senate Judiciary Committee. With her on that Committee, we get the judges through.

If she resigns, the GOP , because of the arcane Senate rules, can BLOCK ANY REPLACEMENT ON THAT COMMITTEE.

WHICH MEANS NO MORE JUDGES.

NOTHING in the Senate is more important than getting those judges through.

PERIOD!!!

U.S. traders flouting sanctions on buying Myanmar teak, report says

Vast quantities of timber from Myanmar continue to enter the United States despite sanctions on the country’s state-controlled timber monopoly, according to a new report from U.K.-based watchdog group the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA).

Following the February 2021 military coup and violent crackdowns on citizens, countries including the U.S., Canada, the European Union, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom placed sanctions on Myanmar’s junta leaders and military-run enterprises from the forestry, mining, and oil and gas sectors in an effort to curb the regime’s access to natural resource revenues.
