NAACP issues travel warning in Florida: the state ‘has become hostile to Black Americans’ | The Hill

The NAACP issued a formal travel advisory for Florida on Saturday, saying the state has become “hostile to Black Americans” under Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) leadership. “On a seeming quest to silence African-American voices, the Governor and the State of Florida have shown that African Americans are not welcome in the State of Florida,”…

SoCS: Love, Hate, and Yes, I Like that TV show, Plus: Dogs with Sticks.

Anything is Possible!

Today’sprompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “stick.”Use it as a noun or a verb; use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Love is not always easy. To be honest, there are people and things that are hard to love. I admit to saying I hate some things. Maybe I don’t hate any particular person, but I hate it when people are mean and act like bullies. In order to save ourselves, sometimes we have to love people from a distance. Like people who are critical, or talk constantly, know it alls, who might have a good heart somewhere deep down, but after a while they can be toxic.

Back to love. How to stick with love….. I suppose it’s possible to remember that God loves everyone. But God doesn’t hang around with everyone all the time (I’m guessing here.) God can assign angels to hang out with…

Trans girl misses Mississippi graduation after being told to dress like boy | AP News

A transgender girl in Mississippi is not participating in her high school graduation because school officials told her to dress like a boy and a federal judge did not block the officials’ decision. That’s according to Linda Morris of the American Civil Liberties Union, an attorney for the girl’s family. The girl had chosen a dress to wear with her cap and gown Saturday at Harrison Central High School in Gulfport. Graduating boys are expected to wear white shirts and black slacks, while girls are expected to wear white dresses. U.S. District Judge Taylor McNeel ruled late Friday that he won’t block school officials’ decision about the dress code.

Salt

– Swimming in the sea
There’s no salt to see
And you say to me
Salt is from the sea

– But as the sun sets
Light and seawater met
Water left with the light
Only salt is left in sight.

Muối

– Bé đi tắm biển
Nào thấy muối đâu
Sao bảo là muối
Lấy từ biển sâu.

– Nhưng rồi triều lên
Tràn vào đồng nắng
Nước bay về trời
Là còn muối trắng.

Os Lusíadas

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

” Das lembranças que na alma lhe moravam,

Que sempre ante seus olhos te traziam,

Quando dos teus fermosos se apartavam;

De noite, em doces sonhos que mentiram,

De dia, em pensamentos que voavam;

E quanto, enfim, cuidavam e quanto via

Eram tudo memórias de alegria. “

Filosofa’s Meandering Mind …

Filosofa's Word

What Is R.E.S.P.E.C.T.?

Yesterday, I played Aretha Franklin’s wonderful song, R.E.S.P.E.C.T.  And then, I did my usual perusal of the day’s news and a question began to form in my mind:  What, precisely, is respect?  My first answer was that it is something we have far too little of in this world today.

A quick look at the online dictionary gives two definitions for the word “respect”:

  • a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.
  • due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others.

Both are apt, I think, and certainly there are people who deserve our respect as per the first definition, though we might not agree on who those people are.  But the context in which I typically speak of respect is more aligned with the second definition … which can be simplified by my motto:  Live…
