“Don’t Say Period”: Now Florida wants to ban students from discussing menstruation | Salon.com

The bill proposes banning any form of health education until sixth grade and would prohibit students from asking questions about menstruation, including about their own first periods, which frequently occur before the sixth grade. If passed by Florida’s Senate and signed into law by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, the ban will be effective July 1.

In response, much has been written about the harms of depriving young people of information about their own changing bodies, and how in such a void, schools will instead be teaching a culture of shame.

We need to pay attention to our heritage, and one Jamaican initiative focuses on a specific aspect that combines architectural know-how, history, and opportunity for young people to learn a remarkable and unique skill.

The Wattle and Red Earth (WARE) Collectiveis seeking support for its Living Museum Project, driven by an acronym: H.O.P.E. This stands for History, Opportunity, Preservation, and Enterprise. Here is the GoFundMe link. As described, this Living…

White House to launch $5 billion program to improve COVID vaccines | CIDRAP

The Biden administration is launching a $5 billion plan to speed the development of new COVID-19 vaccines and treatments, the Washington Post reported yesterday, citing top federal health officials. Called “Project Next Gen,” the effort follows on the heels of “Operation Warp Speed,” a Trump-era program that streamlined the development of COVID vaccines.

For vaccines, the goals include versions that can induce mucosal immunity, which could cut transmission risk, and a universal coronavirus vaccine that could help protect against SARS-CoV-2 variants or new coronavirus threats.
