Debt Forgiveness for Cape Verde: A Climate Deal that Could Become a Model for Others – DER SPIEGEL

Cape Verde signed a deal with former colonial power Portugal. Some 140 million euros of debt owed to Lisbon is to be gradually cancelled – on the condition that the entire amount is invested in a climate fund. That fund is then to be used to finance the Environment Ministry plans, though the precise shape of those plans is still under negotiation.

BREAKING: Utah first state to pass social media regulations aimed at protecting minors

Utah is the first state in the nation to begin restricting how minors can use social media apps. Gov. Spencer Cox signed a pair of bills on Thursday that will regulate when and how minors in Utah can use of social media and aims to stop those companies from designing addicting features.

Why Are Police Seizing People’s Cars on Memphis?

Ralph Jones, a 70-year-old welder, told the New York Times that Memphis police seized his truck after accusing him of trying to “solicit a prostitute.” The charges were dropped, but police kept his truck and work tools impounded for six weeks before he could get his items returned in exchange for a $750 fee. “It’s nothing but a racket,” Jones told The New York Times.
