We need an Ocean Treaty – like, yesterday

Petchary's Blog

This time, it’s got to work.

Our oceans are facing an unbelievable array of challenges, and I think we know them by now: pollution, over-fishing, the many manifestations of climate change, and now the threat of deep sea mining. It’s urgent.

So, the final negotiations for aUN Ocean Treatyresumed on Monday, February 20, 2023 in New York. This is the Fifth Session of the Intergovernmental Conference, after the Fourth Session in New York ended in March, 2022without agreement. In other words, the 50 High Ambition Coalition countries failed in their promise of an Ocean Treaty last year. In Montréal in December 2022, 190 countries agreed on the “30×30” target, which is to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030 – an encouraging agreement, indeed. Currently, less than 5 percent of our oceans are protected.

Nature — Silent Songs of Sonsnow

“We can no longer keep exploiting the resources of this earth-the trees, the water and the minerals-without any care for the coming generations. It is common sense that we cannot survive if we keep working against nature. We must learn to live in harmony with nature.” His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama

Virologist Disputes WSJ Report on a Minority Opinion Suggesting Covid ‘Lab Leak’ Origin – Slashdot

It reportedly comes from the DOE’s own network of national labs rather than through spying. But I do know that to be consistent with the available scientific evidence, the DOE has to explain how the virus emerged twice over 2 wks in humans at the same market the size of a tennis court, over 8 km & across a river from the only lab in Wuhan working on SARSr-CoVs….

Claims of a progenitor at WIV are pure speculation & unsupported by evidence…. Despite 3 years of a global search for this evidence, it has not materialized, while evidence supporting zoonosis associated with Huanan has continued to stack up. At some point, an absence of evidence might just be evidence of absence.

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!
