For Valentine’s Day gifts? – All that rainforest lost, all that mercury leaching into the water systems, poisoning Indigenous peoples and wildlife. Just for some gold?! The true price of that gold is far too high… We can’t afford it!

« You don’t understand why we want to protect our forest? Ask me, I will answer you! Our ancestors were created with it in the beginning of time. Since then, our people have eaten its game and its fruit. We want our children to grow up here laughing. In the past, many of our people perished from your epidemics. Today I refuse to let their children and grandchildren die from the gold smoke! Chase the gold miners out of our home! They are harmful beings whose thought is dark. They are metal eaters covered in deadly xawara epidemic smoke. »

Years ago, I saw a version of the above illustrations that made me stop in my tracks, and say “YES!” So often there are folks who are only out for themselves. Then there are others who feed the least of these. Feeding people is not just about the physical food we eat, but about the spiritual food we serve to nourish and encourage others, whether through the messages we write, the pictures we paint, the photographs we snap, the people we visit who are lonely, the litter we pick up, or those we teach. Together, we are better and stronger. Each one, feed one.

Universal Responsibility – Silent Songs of Sonsnow

“The problems humanity faces today demand a positive mental attitude and a sense of compassion for others. I firmly believe we can solve the majority of our problems by developing a sense of universal responsibility—wanting to do something for others without a selfish motive.”
