Taliban minister defends ban on women’s university studies – Los Angeles Times (Me: Not an acceptable “defense”)

“We told girls to have proper hijab but they didn’t and they wore dresses like they are going to a wedding ceremony,” he said. “Girls were studying agriculture and engineering, but this didn’t match Afghan culture. Girls should learn, but not in areas that go against Islam and Afghan honor.”

He added that work was underway to fix these issues, and universities would reopen for women once they were resolved. The Taliban made similar promises about high school access for girls, saying classes would resume for them once “technical issues” around uniforms and transport were sorted out, but girls remain shut out of classrooms.

History’s First Named Author Was a Mesopotamian Priestess – Atlas Obscura

HISTORY’S FIRST RECORDED AUTHOR WAS a woman named Enheduanna. Born sometime in the latter half of the 23rd century BC, Enheduanna was the high priestess of the ancient Mesopotamian city of Ur. It was a political role as well as a religious one; as the daughter of a powerful king, Enheduanna was no stranger to affairs of the state. In her writing, she wielded her pen for peace, working to unite a fractured kingdom.

In Liberia, a gold boom leads to unregulated mining and ailing rivers

  • Liberia has abundant mineral resources and legislation aimed at preventing the most environmentally destructive forms of mining but little capacity to enforce those regulations.
  • In the gold mining camp of Sam Beach, Mongabay observed damaged forests and rivers as a result of poorly regulated mining operations.
  • Traditional landowners say they have little ability to participate in negotiations when mining agreements are made, while the community faces the environmental and social fallout of a mining boom.

I will write something positive…

Lolsys Library

Right, from today…Only positive things until after Christmas. Then I go to a place where I can’t access the internet for a couple of days, so no problem there.

I will apologise though. Since getting back from Sydney, I’ve had to keep going. I’m still working this week and next week. This time of year, there is always someone to see or have to talk too. I haven’t had a “quiet” time yet. I am planning on that tomorrow. Wrap some pressies. Try to make myself a bit more “untired”.

Watching the transphobes melt down over the GRA/GRR in Scotland, makes me happy though =D

I absolutely love that Zelensky showed the Republican’s for the kind of people they are, mainly Putin butt kissers. I don’t know how they don’t feel so freaking stupid right now. There was one Republican…

Magic Door Transport Thursdays -La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) P5e6

Context, Critical Thinking, Continuous Learning: Project Do Better

Obviously, some doors are not doors anyone sane would want to open, but others:

What a beautiful story of a tragic life being transported elsewhere through creativity:  a magical door invented by a desperate mother…

(and Tokyo grows up just a little bit too late, but at least shares the beautiful idea that her mother gave her…)  ToxicaTokyo

Great point about needing violence to keep the peace, Palermo (in our current system…), even if you are a Sociopath, formed perfectly for & by this system, just like your non-lover Nutcase.

What a beautiful admission by  Rio:

Ya no somos a quien seguir… que vayan a sus casas, por favor.” / “We are no longer worth following…please go home.”    Rio

and that shouted response:

“No nos vamos!”  / “We will not leave!

Wow.

Y gracias, Angel, otra vez:  “
