Fuimos, quizá, un cristal bonito, cautivante y prodigioso, igual que un poema o una nota musical de inspiración profunda. Un cristal etéreo y mágico que separaba con cuidado la esencia de la arcilla. Sin duda, embellecía la fachada, reflejaba el paisaje y, a la vez, permitía mirar el interior de nuestra morada, eco de aquel ayer que vivimos entre el infinito y la temporalidad. Acaso desconocíamos que, una mañana o una tarde, una noche o en la madrugada, a cierta hora y en determinada fecha, se volvería opaco o se rompería por exceso de historias y por tantos días que se acumularían en ayeres, en pasados, en recuerdos y en olvidos, en murmullos y en silencios que, forzosamente, llegan a uno, a pesar de que ya no se les espere. Somos, probablemente, cristales rotos que, una vez, fueron esculturas…

Obligația asumată a fiecărui faraon era să-și întreacă predecesorii prin amploarea construcțiilor săvârșite și prin lărgirea frontierelor Egiptului.

Pe malul drept al Nilului, Karnak, cea mai mare suprafață cu caracter religios din lume, inclusă în Patrimoniul UNESCO, datează de patru mii șapte sute de ani.

Amon e zeul și patronul Tebei, noua capitală nesupusă a Egiptului.

Originea sa e necunoscută dar, după instalarea capitalei la Teba, oraș sudic solar, zeului i se va adăuga particula Ra, care înseamnă soare.

Va deveni astfel regele zeilor și, de aceea, i s-a consacrat un templu gigantic, unde s-a construit neîncetat, vreme de șapte secole, spre glorificarea lui, un ansamblu de coloane, piloni, ziduri, statui, obeliscuri, hieroglife, alei.

Partea cea mai veche, cea a lui Sesostris I, se află în marginea dinspre est, iar faraonii care au venit după el au construit treptat spre vest.

I feel like taking a stroll through beauty this morning.  The word has gotten so  tarnished by sexual overtones that the topic has dropped out of serious consideration. Maybe I’m funny (yes, I know I am), but I can go back through–and enjoy, and relax, to memories of what I think of as beauty.  Maybe I’m just talking about memories that filled me up, like experiences of some beauty does.  I remember a dress in the ninth grade. It was of pin corduroy, and was something that might be called magenta and had wrap around buttons down to the waist with a little neck that poked up.  Whatever happened to soft pin corduroy, anyway?

Another memory is the figure of a Chinese lady with a parasol, one foot in the air as observed through a store window.  Perfect! If I hadn’t been poor I would have possessed it.
