we will return

we will return

to sing the song of yesteryear

“to greet each other, with the rave of a sand storm…”

we’ll be patient

silent like a child learning to speak

ignoring the scars

not just the recent bombs in Sri Lanka

nor flying bullets of an April long ago

the children in fear held their breath

they sat waiting

for the angels to drop in

dangling

a hook in our throats

to pull us all up…

.

April 2019

Casa limpa

Alma arejada,

Coração leve,

Sentimento de felicidade espalhado pelo ar,

Sinto a brisa risonha correndo entre as cortinas

A liberdade e o amor andando juntos,

A vida redigindo uma nova página.

Tudo é novo de novo.

Toda origem é conflito,

Mas também trabalho,

Recompensa,

Casa limpa,

Alma arejada,

Coração leve

hypnotizing patriotism

HYPNOTIZING PATRIOTISM

I am one share

of all, and

I am myself (to fixation)

I am

a glimpse in the mirror

I am

a covert plan

a mantra of fate

locked up

inside a metal safe of the soul

but you shall never find the key

to open it

( sleep, you are sleepy)

hence I woke up

at the noon of awareness

giving light to ignorance easily hurt

Nation

hungry and thirsty

impulsive:

– I’m on my last breath

– apparent is the dominion over the people

– apparent is the exploitation of workers

there’s no need for any kind of investigation

I’ve examined the creases of the ape’s brain

gaining the control to audit dreams

but I’m suspicious of myself

my astuteness is still…

when the clouds are weighed down by pain

Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

A poem in Vietnamese by Lê Vĩnh Tài

when the clouds are weighed down by pain

the congesting sadness

a storm

clouds stuck in your throat

you can’t breath

no matter how loud you shout

how much you want to disappear

you’re more choked up

dark clouds are dark clouds

in the end, once you give up

surrender

since it didn’t just rain

it would pour

each burning drop

soothing you thought, but instead

the cloud is set on smothering you to death

eventually

you give in to it

breath in and out

the fear

all the aspects of sadness

the sombreness of the rain

the attempts to endure an undiminishing eternity

the peak of age-old talentless

delusions of perseverance

inevitably into itself

disappears

you now and then would survive the dark clouds

you now…
