Cultivate compassion and non-violence — Silent Songs of Sonsnow

“Negative emotions like attachment and anger are part of our lives, but there are antidotes to them. We need to reflect not only on the damage anger and fear can do, but also on the benefits to be found in cultivating compassion and non-violence and find a balance between them.” 6 more words

Several New Mexico Advocacy Organizations Targeted By Politically Motivated Domestic Terrorism

At least three advocacy organizations active in the 2022 election season have become targets of politically motivated domestic terrorism.

Last week, Conservation Voters New Mexico reported receiving an anonymous envelope containing mail pieces about the election campaign of State Rep. Nathan Small (HD36, Las Cruces), covered in antisemitic imagery and containing a chemical substance that is a chemical precursor to a potent toxin often used in terrorist attacks. The letters attacked Rep. Small and the Democratic Party and included images defaced with drawings of swastikas and Hitler.

The New Mexico State Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO and EDF Action Votes also received similar envelopes:

The only statement from any Republican Party representative on these attacks targeting advocacy organizations who endorsed Rep. Small, a Democrat and conservationist, was, “We are unable to comment until we review a police report.”

Indigenous leaders from B.C. take international stage for a climate policy pitch | Globalnews.ca

First Nations leaders from British Columbia are taking their environment and climate policy pitch directly to the international stage at a United Nations climate conference in Africa in an attempt to set a tone for domestic climate policy.

Leaders of the First Nations Climate Initiative, made up of four B.C. First Nations, say they will leverage their invitation to COP27 to reiterate the climate action plan it presented to the provincial and federal governments in September.

Alex Grzybowski, a facilitator for the First Nations Climate Initiative, said one of their key goals among seven policy proposals is to reduce poverty in First Nations communities by implementing innovative climate policies.
