The Recorder – My Turn: Vote like your democracy depends on it
The midterm elections are now bearing down on us, just four weeks away and much hangs in the balance. Democrats hold a small majority in the House of Representatives and are split 50-50 with Republicans in the Senate. If Republicans take control of either or both legislative bodies, the march toward authoritarian rule will have taken a giant step forward. It will open the way for a second Trump presidency and that will surely be the end of all those great ideas of our founders.
Yes, I know that sounds like hyperbole, but I don’t think it is. We must do everything in our power to get people out to vote for Democrats on Nov. 8. Write postcards and letters, phone bank, text bank, go house to house, donate money if you can. And, most important, make sure you vote!

A story by Laleh Chini:

Adam worked in a flower shop near the very crowded entrance of a subway.
Every day he opened the flower shop early, and after a few hours, the owner showed up to work. The owner was an older woman, very kind, and talented at her job.

She had been working at her shop for more than forty years. Now that she wasn’t able to be at her shop for more than a few hours, she hired Adam to teach him all her magic talent and sell the shop to Adam in small payments.

Adam was a handsome boy with long hair and attractive eyes. He loved working at the flower shop, especially becoming the future owner made him more passionate.

Adam was very kind and friendly to all the customers. Hundreds of people walked to the shop daily, some new…

What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? Bright Ideas: Nosh Crostini and Oranges! When you’re not exactly hungry, but could use a snack between meals or to satisfy a late night craving for “something”….crostini fits the bill, so to speak. Crostini adds the crunch of potato chips and the flavor of croutons, only better. Fresh mozzarella melts incredibly well because it contains less moisture. You can thank fresh mozzarella for those ah-mazing cheese pulls that become gooey strands of seductiveness. Uh-huh, I see you nodding your head in total agreement. Better grab a napkin.

Remember When … ??? — Filosofa’s Word

Remember when mid-term elections were boring, almost non-events? Remember when the media took their job seriously to inform the public rather than entertain? Remember when candidates running for public office were educated, had read the Constitution, and actually had policy platforms? Not in the year 2022! This year’s mid-terms threaten to be a turning point […]
