What Was That Badge Herschel Walker Flashed in His Debate? – The New York Times

“Georgia sheriffs were seriously handing out those badges like candy in a candy dish,” J.Tom Morgan, a former district attorney in DeKalb County, Ga., who was elected as a Democrat, said in an interview on Saturday. “That badge gives you no law enforcement authority. He doesn’t have the power to write a traffic ticket.”

Mr. Morgan, who is now a professor at Western Carolina University, said the badges became so widely abused that the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association curtailed the practice of giving them out.

Feliz Dia dos Professores

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

Feliz Dia do professor

♫ Do You Know The Way To San José ♫ (Redux)

Filosofa's Word

This one was written, as were many of Dionne Warwick’s songs, by the prolific songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. The upbeat melody belies the melancholy lyrics about giving up on a dream and going back home. The juxtaposition was a common technique with Hal David, who says …

“The idea of doing a lyric that is essentially kind of sad to a very up and optimistic melody is something I’ve done a lot, and I’ve always thought it was an effective way of writing a song. Burt played this melody for me, and music says things to me and should say things to me.

I heard the phrase do you know the way to San Jose, and from that I began to create the storyline that became the person who comes to Los Angeles to make his or her career in the entertainment business and has dreams…

Party Of “Law & Order”??? 🤣

Filosofa's Word

The Republican Party has long claimed to be the party of “law and order”.  I have a little problem with that claim, given their behaviour and rhetoric of late.  Let’s take a look at just a few of the reasons I think it is a joke that they still attempt to lay claim to that title.

  • The biggest threat to law and order today is posed by people toting guns, by guns in the hands of people who should never be within a mile of a firearm. And yet, Republicans steadfastly refuse to legislate any form of gun regulations.  They refuse to even talk about a ban on military-style assault weapons that can mow down 30-40 people within a minute.  They refuse to put common sense gun laws into effect that would ensure expanded background checks, keep guns out of the hands of domestic violence abusers, make licensing and testing…

‘Can’t rule out’ return of indoor mask-wearing, other rules if Covid-19 XBB wave worsens: Ong Ye Kung – TODAY

Singapore “cannot rule out” the return of safe management measures such as the wearing of face masks indoors in the coming weeks, depending on how the current Covid-19 XBB wave pans out, said Health Minister Ong Ye Kung on Saturday (Oct 15).

He added that Singapore may also have to “step up” vaccination-differentiated safe management measures if the situation warrants it.
