Florida Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Hate Crime for Racially-Motivated Attack on a Black Man | OPA | Department of Justice

According to the plea agreement, on Nov. 17, 2021, Lashley traveled to the Family Dollar in Citrus Springs, Florida, where the victim, a Black man, was shopping inside. Lashley followed the victim outside into the parking lot and then attacked him, striking the victim multiple times. Lashley and his co-defendant, Roy Lamar Lashley, directed racial slurs towards the victim before, during and after the attack. The victim sustained injuries to his face and legs, including a laceration to the inside of his mouth.

“The defendant is being held accountable for subjecting a Black man to a brutal and racially-motivated assault,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “Convictions like these make clear that the Department of Justice will continue to investigate and prosecute individuals who violently assault others because of their race. Racially-motivated hate crimes have no place in our society.”

Avian Flu Diary: Post-Disaster Sequelae

I’ve made it a point to have a disaster plan, a disaster buddy, a bug-out destination, and the things I would need to survive without electricity, running water, open grocery stores or pharmacies for a week or longer:

  • A battery operated NWS Emergency Radio to find out what was going on, and to get vital instructions from emergency officials
  • A decent first-aid kit, so that you can treat injuries
  • Enough non-perishable food and water on hand to feed and hydrate your family (including pets) for the duration
  • A way to provide light when the grid is down.
  • A way to cook safely without electricity
  • A way to purify or filter water
  • A way to handle basic sanitation and waste disposal.
  • A way to stay cool (fans) or warm when the power is out.
  • A small supply of cash to use in case credit/debit machines are not working
  • An emergency plan, including meeting places, emergency out-of-state contact numbers, a disaster buddy, and in case you must evacuate, a bug-out bag
  • Spare supply of essential prescription medicines that you or your family may need
  • A way to entertain yourself, or your kids, during a prolonged blackout

I do this not only for my physical health and comfort, but for my mental health as well. I sleep better at night knowing I’m prepared for the worst, and if it happens, I’ll be less stressed and less challenged than had I not prepared.

I’m not as young, or as physically able, as I used to be.  I realize that conditions I might have tolerated when I was 30 are a lot harder to deal with, now that I’m nearing 70.

You don’t have to live in Hurricane country to be battered by a natural disaster. Earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, tsunami’s, blizzards, volcanic eruptions, and even solar storms can strike with little or no warning.

Preparedness is cheap insurance.  A good place to get started is READY.GOV http://www.ready.gov/

The Midterms Are Becoming More Clear

Filosofa's Word

Polls, polls, polls!!!  Everybody (myself included) is glued to the various polls, especially those with the most obnoxious candidates, such as Herschel Walker, Mehmet Oz, J.D. Vance, Doug Mastriano, etc.  Remember 2016 … the polls indicated that Hillary Clinton was a shoo-in.  Need I say more?  One problem with polls vs outcome is that anybody and everybody can respond to a poll, but not anybody and everybody can or will vote.  Easy enough to tell that telephone pollster that you’re planning to vote for Mark Kelly, but it requires a bit more effort to actually cast a vote.  Another problem, of course, is who is polled.  It doesn’t pay to look at any specific poll, but rather look at an aggregate of the most historically reliable polls, and you might get a pretty good idea of how the nation is leaning, but you still won’t really know how many of…

Mysteries

normabobb

We can’t fathom the mystery of life and death but we obsess over and obliterate people who we think are inferior to us, including animals and plants which are important to the eco system. We have to transition from the idea of predator and prey to one of collective management of the resources in this universe. We have to be in tune with the rhythm of nature if we want to preserve life on earth.

Kazakh Interior Ministry says more than 200,000 Russians have entered Kazakhstan — Meduza

More than 200,000 Russians have entered Kazakhstan since Vladimir Putin announced mobilization on September 21, Kazakh Interior Minister Marat Akhmetzhanov reported on Tuesday. At the same time, he said, many of their stays have been short: between September 21 and October 4, about 147,000 Russians left Kazakhstan.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has said that he plans to hold talks with the Russian authorities amid the mass influx of Russians into the country. Akhmetzhanov has vowed that Kazakhstan will not extradite any Russian citizens seeking to evade mobilization unless they appear on the federal wanted list.

Elon Musk’s Ukraine proposal delights the Kremlin Dmitry Medvedev thinks he might even be ‘worthy of a promotion’ — Meduza (Me: Musk sides with Putin and accepts war crimes)

On Oct. 3, Elon Musk outlined a four-point proposal for achieving peace in Ukraine. His plan involved concessions to Russia on a scale instantly deemed entirely unacceptable by Kyiv. The Kremlin, on the other hand, appears to be delighted by Musk’s “initiative.”Source: Elon Musk’s Ukraine proposal delights the Kremlin Dmitry Medvedev thinks he might even be ‘worthy of a promotion’ — Meduza

The Horse and The Butterfly a Moral Story✍️

Siva jyothi

The horse and butterfly insirational moral story,

Once upon a time there lived a sad and lonely Horse. It was a long time ago that his owner had died, and now no one visited our horse anymore. He so desperately wanted company, to join the other horses he could hear in the distance. Alas his field was fenced and there was no escape. He would spend his days wandering sadly around his field eating only the tastiest bits of grass. Until one day everything changed for him.

On that amazing, life tranforming day everything started out as normal. It all started while he was sampling a particularly tasty patch of grass. At that moment a Butterfly came fluttering along and landed on a dandelion next to our Horse.

“Hello beautiful Horse” said the Butterfly

Surprised and delighted that the Butterfly could talk the Horse instantly began telling the Butterfly all his worries

“You see” said the Horse…
