GOP MAGAs Push Towards Autocracy Will Harm US Economy and Its Citizens — Filosofa’s Word

Virginia Uses Treated Wastewater to Shore Up a Drinking Water Aquifer – The New York Times

Around the country, cities and towns are increasingly turning to treated wastewater to augment their supplies of drinking water. The number of drinking-water reuse projects has quadrupled over the past two decades, according to data collected by the National Alliance for Water Innovation, a research program funded by the United States Department of Energy.

“It is now necessary for us to consider options that would, in previous generations, be considered unthinkable,” said Michael Kiparsky, director of the Wheeler Water Institute at the University of California, Berkeley.

Louisiana trio imprisoned for 28 years freed after judge tosses murder convictions | Louisiana | The Guardian

Bernell Juluke, one of three men freed from the Angola prison on Wednesday. ‘You deserve the utmost apology,’ Judge Tracey Flemigs-Davillier said.

At an emotionally charged post-conviction hearing on Wednesday, prosecutors for the Orleans parish district attorney’s civil rights division presented evidence in court that linked the 1994 murder to disgraced former police officers Len Davis and Sammie Williams. Records revealed the pair were the first officers present at the scene of the shooting.

Prosecutors also unveiled additional evidence of innocence, involving the testimony and credibility of the lone eyewitness to the shooting, which had been withheld from the defense at trial.

Davis, who is currently on federal death row after being convicted on multiple civil rights charges, became a key target in an FBI undercover operation in the mid-90s as it emerged the patrolman was a lead enforcer in a protection racket for city drug dealers operated by corrupt police officers. During the investigation, Davis was recorded on a wiretap commissioning a hit on a woman named Kim Groves, who had filed a brutality complaint against his partner Williams. Groves was murdered less than two months after the Santinac killing.

DeSantis Is Slamming Covid Vaccines. Here’s Why. – Mother Jones – (Me: Pure politics and playing to a blinded biased GOP base)

Both Desantis’ and Ladapo’s claims are misleading: Public health officials did not “lie to us” about the Covid vaccines; rather, they were far more effective at preventing transmission of the original strain of the virus and continue to be extremely effective at preventing hospitalization and death. And, as the Washington Post reported, experts have pointed out a few problems with the logic underpinning Lapado’s new guidance: it drew from potentially inaccurate death certificates instead of medical records; it excludes anyone with Covid from the analysis; and it extrapolates from just 20 deaths that occurred—in some cases, as long as a month after vaccination. Romanian environmentalists battle to save rare million-year-old species of fish | Euronews

In a race against time to save the rarest fish in Europe, a team of environmentalists and experts are developing a sanctuary for the asprete, a rare species of fish also called the living fossil.

As old as the dinosaurs, it is only found in one river in Romania and it’s on the brink of extinction.

While the authorities thought there were only 15 fish left in the river, a team of experts found 57 specimens in just one day of exploration.
