Humiliated Liz Truss is in office but barely in power. Rebel MPs have the whip hand now | Gaby Hinsliff | The Guardian

In a quarter of a century of covering party conferences I can’t remember a car crash like this, or a prime minister whose authority drained so fast. The speed of her decline is dizzying, as if someone had fast-forwarded the film straight to the big fight scene at the end; within the space of a week, she has lost the confidence of her MPs, the markets and the country. From abroad, we’re now viewed with the rubbernecking fascination the tabloids once reserved for Kerry Katona or Britney Spears in mid-breakdown. Is Britain … all right? Our friends are worried for us. And all the time, real money is draining from real pockets, alarmingly fast. Source: Humiliated Liz Truss is in office but barely in power. In Idaho, we’re seeing how freedom of speech is being curtailed around abortion | Moira Donegan | The Guardian

The sweeping new guidance from University of Idaho administrators represents a brutal new reality in red states, where women’s options, speech and academic freedoms are now being dramatically constrained by the misogynist laws that have sprung into effect since the US supreme court’s reversal of Roe v Wade in June.

In Idaho, the guidance is meant to keep professors in line with two laws: Idaho’s 2020 trigger ban, a total, criminal abortion ban that went into effect on 25 August, and a long-dormant 1972 law that makes “advertising” abortion or contraception a felony. According to that law, only licensed doctors may legally provide contraception to people who ask for it and are deemed “sufficiently intelligent and mature”. But the gag rules now in effect there are typical of many red state abortion bans, which now frequently prohibit not just performing abortions, but vocally supporting abortions, providing information about abortion, or helping to provide funds and other material support for abortions – “promoting” them, in Idaho’s parlance.

Depleted Myanmar Military Calls Up Retired Cops to Fill Ranks

The Myanmar military is turning to retired policemen to replenish its ranks, in a further sign that desertions and casualties are taking a heavy toll on the regime.

Since last year’s coup, the regime’s fighting forces have been seriously depleted by desertions and casualties sustained in daily clashes with People’s Defense Force (PDF) groups and ethnic armed organizations (EAOs), and it has struggled to recruit both officer cadets and privates.

Ready – Set – Okinawa

Pacific Paratrooper

B-32 on Okinawa, 12 Aug. 1945

Saturday, 11 August 1945, top secret orders were delivered to General Swing for the division to be prepared to move to Okinawa at any time. The division G-3, Colonel Quandt, called Colonel Pearson, “This is an Alert. Have your regiment [187th] ready to move out by air forty-eight hours from now.” Commanders throughout the 11th A/B had their men reassembled, even those on weekend passes had been found and brought back to camp. The lead elements left Luzon immediately. At 0630 hours on the 13th, trucks brought the 187th to Nichols and Nielson Fields for transport and they landed at 1645 hours that afternoon at Naha, Kadena and Yotan Fields on Okinawa. They would remain on the island for two weeks.

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

– a uns..
Outros de menos…
Mas o importante é que a nossa vontade como povo, seja respeitada sempre. E a nossa esperança por dias melhores, nunca deixe de existir.

Excelente dia a todos!

CAN Monday Be Jolly? Come See …

Filosofa's Word

Good morning and welcome to …

Yes, once again that day has rolled around … the day you put on a suit or uniform or whatever your job requires, pack a lunch, and head out the door bright and early to earn yet another dollar or pound or peso.  But here at Filosofa’s Word, our goal is to dispel that gloom and doom, to ensure that as you head out the door, you do so with a smile on your face!

Since the weather is getting cooler out there, Joyful and I thought some nice warm soup might be a good way to start the day … but never fear, bacon-lovers … there’s plenty of bacon to go around too!  I actually like a bit of crumbled bacon atop my potato soup!  So, grab a snack and a hot drink, and then we’ll see if we can find some smiles…
