reformed

mixing rice and salt to reform a sweet block of chocolate

like a dictator reformed in the form of a king

.

as liberation was in love reformed

as the consumption of barley hunger was reformed

.

as carpet bombing reformed the summer

as people were reformed by agent orange

.

as the angels were reformed in re-education camps

left as mortals

.

as white chalk was reformed by darkness

ensuing three generations of mediocre academics

the associates ruled(the world)

.

as the atmosphere was reformed by the destruction of the jungle

followed by the crocodile tears

and competing despair

.

as plagiarism reformed honesty

in silence accepted the awards

followed by how life’s so unfair

the jealousy and hatred

कोशिश / Effort

Kaushal Kishore

मुझे नहीं पता
कि क्या लिखा है
मेरी किस्मत में,
लेकिन मेरे हाथ
पुष्टि करते हैं
कि वहां एक शब्द
जरूर लिखा होगा,
“कोशिश…”

🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

I don’t know
what has been written
in my destiny,
but my hands confirm
that one word there
must have been written,
“Effort…”

Ancient Word of the Day: Sansai — Content Catnip

Sansai. n. ‘mountain vegetables’ from Japanese. Sansai grow wild in marshlands, and grasslands, or in the forest. Japanese people have been gathering wild food to cook with since ancient times. How Folks In Pacoima Are Fighting The Heat — With Asphalt Paint | LAist

Half a dozen people are painting asphalt at a park using long paint rollers. Earlier this year, Pacoima Beautiful painted 10 square blocks and a few murals with a special coat that mitigates the hotness of the asphalt, reflects solar waves and beautifies the area. The painted asphalt doesn’t trap as much heat as non-painted surfaces. Source: How Folks In Pacoima Are Fighting The Heat — With Asphalt Paint | LAist

The New Humanitarian | What Sri Lanka’s economic crisis looks like for women

With inflation soaring above 64 percent, Sri Lankans have been reeling for months from an economic crisis that is jeopardising their health, education, and basic living standards, driving many into hunger and poverty.

The skyrocketing costs of living have impacted everyone, but some marginalised communities and groups are particularly hard hit; among them women who face the double burden of trying to earn an income while also performing unpaid care work at home, for children or elderly relatives.

Sri Lanka’s sudden collapse stemmed from myriad factors, including: years of economic mismanagement; the pandemic’s double blow to tourism and remittances; and decades of forced reliance on foreign loans.

In September Summer Still Sings

From Behind the Pen

Summer is slowly coming to a close as we navigate through the next few days of September. Needless to say, summer has not been short of an eventful season. This morning, I thought about how much we experienced a lot of highs and lows, good and bad, joy and sadness, the planned and the unexpected over the last few months. As we prepare for Autumn to roll in, Summer still sings in these final days of a warm embrace. Please enjoy this reflective poem, “September” by Lucy Maud Montgomery.

September

Lo! a ripe sheaf of many golden days

Gleaned by the year in autumn’s harvest ways,

With here and there, blood-tinted as an ember,

Some crimson poppy of a late delight

Atoning in its splendor for the flight

Of summer blooms and joys

This is September.
