GOP Cruelty Pleases Their Constituents

On The Fence Voters

I’ve said it before, and I’ll repeat it. As it is presently constituted, the GOP represents a small minority of people in this country who think being cruel to people is a virtue.

We all know about the disgraced former president. We’ve seen the hatred he spewed as president and now as a private citizen. He is the standard-bearer for this type of behavior. He’s got a group in Congress who continue to support him no matter what. And, if he’s indicted, we know that support would continue. Many of those same GOP politicians mirror the personality of their dear leader, who relishes every chance he gets to insult and lie with impunity.

And they wouldn’t do it were it not for millions of people in this country who love every minute of it. And they do not cross the former president because they know the death threats and intimidation…

Bringing a little focus on racial issues:  shmoovermadnessatthegates

Today:

Of 245 million adults, 220 million are eligible to vote. Over twenty million – at least half of them people of color – cannot vote. This includes most prisoners, ex-felons, territorial residents and college students on campuses not in their home districts. The more African Americans a state contains, the more likely it is to ban felons from voting. The average state disenfranchises 2.4% of its voting-age population but 8.4% of blacks. In fourteen states, the share of blacks stripped of the vote exceeds 10%, and in five states it exceeds 20%. Over 60% of Republicans want the U.S. declared a Christian nation.

Police kill over a thousand people per year. Blacks are 2.5 times more likely to be killed by police than whites. Every 28 hours, a person of color is shot dead by a policeman, a security guard…

The year coming to an end

Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

I’m sorry

Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

A poem in Vietnamese by Thái Hạo

Chiầu núi hồng

I’m sorry
I can’t turn off the light
to light a dim candle in the night
those who have died needlessly needs more light to guide them home

I shall turn on the light on the verandah, the footpath
in the bloodshot eyes of blooming flowers in the garden
the dragging shadows of the neon glow like swords severing the dark
I want to erect the sunlight
24 hours of sleeplessness

the uncountable soul dying in the dark
amidst the living in the shadows of the night
pointless is a single candle light

where
where are the brilliant stadium lights
erect them in the five vital organs
light up the bloody flooding
gushing through pieces of silent flesh…

I Wandered Lonely As A Leaf

yaskhan

The wind flew me high up in the air
I could see clouds all white and fair.

I was a tiny leaf that took the fall
Autumn had made me brown and small.

I missed being on that great oak
I think I was on that branch that broke.

Then I fell into a gurgling brook
Got caught in a little nook.

There used to be spring in my leafy step
Summer’s ardour is now at a low ebb.

I am no longer a leaf that is green and spry
I miss gazing at the great turquoise sky.

Dear people, know that leaves are the many reasons
For all of these happening seasons.
