♫ Another Saturday Night ♫ — Filosofa’s Word

On Monday, I played a ‘Monday’ song, Come Monday, and as a result have gotten several suggestions for other ‘Monday’ songs!  So, after finishing Saturday Surprise last night, I thought maybe I’d dig through my repertoire for a ‘Saturday’ song and this was the first one I came up with.  It was actually a toss-up […]

Twenty-five seconds showers — Filosofa’s Word

Originally posted on musingsofanoldfart: Regardless of whether elected officials want to talk about this, we have a global water crisis that has been building for some time. Here in the states, it manifests itself in three ways: more severe droughts in drier areas, evaporating and depleting water sources, and too many lead pipes still being…

Long COVID-19 Ruled a Disability in the UK

The Equality Act and Long COVID-19

There are three considerations that the Equality Act 2010 uses to determine if a condition is a protected disability:

  • There must be a physical or mental impairment.
  • The disability lasts for longer than 12 months.
  • The disability causes a substantial impact on one’s day-to-day activities.

While not everyone’s experience of long COVID-19 qualifies them under these requirements, some people’s circumstances do. The caretaker’s tribunal decision took into account that long COVID-19 symptoms can fluctuate over time, still qualifying the caretaker as having a disability that lasted at least 12 months.

“We’re very keen to work with employers, to help them to understand that in fact, in many cases, long COVID will make the worker a disabled person under the Equality Act 2010,” said Deirdre Costigan, national officer at UNISON, the U.K.’s largest public service union, headquartered in London.

Whether long COVID-19 can be consistently covered by the Equality Act is unclear, because there is such a wide variety of symptoms and the disease is still new and understudied. “There have been calls for long COVID to be added to the legislation as a deemed disability, but the difficulty, the resistance with that is long COVID is impacting different people in different ways,” said Julie Temple, an attorney with Birkett Long in Essex, England.

Hope again–espero novamente

Coisas da SIL

Estou esperançosa
De novos sorrisos
Novo ânimo foi depositado
Na estrada do meu coração.

Ando sem nervosa
Parece sem noção
Mas percebo que não.

O arco-íris nem sempre aparece
Mas está ali
De vez em quando um broto
De cores surgem
E alegram a sina
Que antes se extinguia na escuridão.

Que bom o caminho
Que seguimos já não é mais antigo
E feliz estou por saber que sempre
Tem alguém indo comigo também.

Hope again

Hope Again

I’m hopeful
Of new smiles
New spirit has been deposited
On the road of my heart.

I’m not nervous
seems clueless
But I realize not.

The rainbow doesn’t always appear
but it’s there
Every now and then a bud
Of colors arise
And make the fate happy
That before was extinguished in the darkness.

how good the way
That we follow is no longer old
And happy I…

THIS MOMENT
WE MUST ACT NOW TO SAVE THE PLANET FROM IRREVERSIBLE CATASTROPHE.
That’s why on the first Friday of every month, we will answer the alarm sounded by young people like Greta Thunberg and bring the climate emergency to the axis of power.

Shut My Mouth!

NANMYKEL.COM

Big deal, I was going to “do some good” by publishing a weekly climate change update on my blog.  I did a little research on Google and found that large groups are covering the world climate change and their blogs are free, too.  I quit my original plan but will give you an idea of what’s elsewhere in much greater coverage than I could offer.  I may, however, post a few entries while not pretending they are comprehensive.  At the end of the following please note the essay by good friend Alexa Abercrombie Ross

Just as Mainstream Media outlets are joining forces to create stronger climate change resources, so are these specialized outlets. Take a look at Collateral, a series on climate, data and science, which is a collaboration between Inside Climate News and The Weather Channel. And, if you are…

Last debates for president: Linezine (Brazil)

Final goal of the presidential campaign and everyone is attentive to the latest debates that will be held by SBT and Rede Globo. Many speculations and a certainty, Lula will not participate in the SBT debate that will air today (09/24/22). This absence, perhaps, does not scratch Lula’s electorate much, as the image of the former president is already consolidated and a slippage at this point could be very expensive.

In the last debate, when Bolsonaro questioned Lula about corruption schemes in the PT governments, what was seen was an unanswered candidate for questions. Bolsonaro did what he always does, he disrespected a woman. Journalist Vera Magalhães was Bolsonaro’s victim. This act was not well digested by journalism professionals and is still mentioned when it comes to presidential debate.

But, what is the PT’s bet for the SBT debate? Very simple: Bolsonaro, alone, will probably not endure the time of debate without committing other disrespectful attitudes towards anyone who confronts him. Bolsonaro can’t take pressure, he’s a shamro and terribly insubordinate. With these characteristics, it will certainly produce other regrettable scenes during the debate. Just wait and see, and in this way, whoever will win the debate without having gone, will be Lula who will not participate in these lowlands and will have his image unshakable and, to Bolsonaro’s despair, the advantage tends to amplify even more…

Ser Mulher

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!
