In ‘Safe Abortion for All Women’ Verdict, Supreme Court’s Big Statement on Marital Rape – India
“All women are entitled to safe and legal abortion… The interpretation of MTP has to reflect the societal realities. The 2021 Statement of Objects doesn’t differentiate between married and unmarried women,” a bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud and comprising Justices AS Bopana and BV Nagrathna said.
“The distinction between married and unmarried woman for the purposes of the MTP Act is artificial and constitutionally unsustainable and it perpetuates the stereotype that only married women indulges in sexual activities,” the bench added, holding that the decision to abort is “her prerogative”.

In the age of phone selfies, why does the painted portrait still enthral us? – ABC News
Their newborns were taken at birth. Years later, these women still don’t know why | CBC News
Several years, even decades, have passed since Audrey Redman, Kathleen Rogers and Neecha Dupuis gave birth, and with proposed class-action lawsuits on birth alerts underway, they say they’re ready to seek records on what exactly happened to them and why.
“I don’t know why [Children’s Aid Society] had red-flagged me. I still don’t know to this day,” said Dupuis, whose son is now 11 years old.
“That’s something I just kind of lived with.”
Redman, Rogers and Dupuis — who have become friends living in Ottawa — are all survivors of the Sixties Scoop, when child welfare authorities took thousands of Indigenous children from their families and placed them with non-Indigenous foster or adoptive parents.
As some of them open up for the first time publicly about their own birthing stories, they say the systemic taking away of Indigenous children in Canada needs to stop with their generation.
“Hands off,” said Redman. “You’ve taken our children, you’ve taken our babies. Enough.”
“I want to make sure this stops so it doesn’t come after my children, my grandbabies,” said Rogers.
“It’s going to stop with us.”

Eurosurveillance | Can high COVID-19 vaccination rates in adults help protect unvaccinated children? Evidence from a unique mass vaccination campaign, Schwaz/Austria, March 2021
What have we learnt from this study?
SARS-CoV-2 infections were reduced in the unvaccinated children in the district Schwaz/Austria following the mass vaccination compared with border municipalities in the neighbouring district or with a control region.
What are the implications of your findings for public health?
Our results demonstrate that high COVID-19 vaccine coverage in the population can provide indirect protection for groups where a vaccine is not yet approved or vaccine-induced immunity may be poor (e.g. old age or underlying conditions).

Two Migrants Shot, One Fatally, Along Roadway in Rural Texas – The New York Times
Two unauthorized migrants were shot, one of them fatally, by two men in a pickup truck that approached them as they walked along a roadway in West Texas, according to court documents filed on Thursday.
After the shooting, which took place on Tuesday evening, the truck was found parked at a home not far from the local sheriff’s office in Hudspeth County, a rural area east of El Paso that runs from the border with Mexico to the state line of New Mexico.
Two men were arrested in connection with the shooting, law enforcement officials said: Michael Sheppard, the warden at a local privately run detention center, and his twin brother, Mark Sheppard.
Both men were charged with manslaughter, according to affidavits filed by investigators in the case. Neither could be immediately reached for comment.
