As notícias tristes assusta. As inesperadas amendronta. As sem graça deixa a vida amarga. Doe e deixa tudo confuso. Perde a alegria, perde a sintonia o brilho e a sina. By: Coisas da SiL

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

A Gabriela vive…

Denmark hopes artificial reefs will restore cod

Darcy Hitchcock

Cod are apex predators in the cold waters off Denmark. Their decline has led to more crabs which eat the sea grass seeds, and sea grass captures and buries carbon dioxide in the sea floor.

“To solve the nature crisis, we must leave nature in better shape than before.”

Bo Øksnebjerg, WWF Denmark’s Secretary General

So World Wildlife Fund and energy company Ørsted are deploying two types of artificial reefs near their offshore wind turbines. Boulders in wire boxes protect baby cod. And now Denmark is sinking 3-D printed reefs, each weighing half a ton, to support a wide variety of marine species.

“We must give nature and wildlife a hand, while trying to solve our climate crisis by expanding our renewable energy production at the same time,” Bo Øksnebjerg, WWF Denmark’s Secretary General, said. “To solve the nature crisis, we must leave nature in better shape than…

♫ Unchained Melody ♫

Filosofa's Word

The other night, I stumbled across this song in my archives that I played a couple of years ago.  I took a minute to listen and thought it was about time to play it again, since so many of you loved this one.  When I last played this, a number of readers suggested other versions by artists such as Ann Wilson, Roy Hamilton, The Platters, and Marc Martel, but since I didn’t want to put multiple versions here, I simply provided the links … click on whichever one you might wish to hear.  My favourite remains the Righteous Brothers, but perhaps only because that is the one I’m most familiar with.

This is a 1955 song with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. North wrote the music as a theme for the little-known prison film Unchained (1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan…

COVID-19 in Clarksville: Schools enter 2022-23 with over 100 active student cases, 68 employee cases | ClarksvilleNow.com

There are currently 105 active student cases, and 107 students are in quarantine, according to the CMCSS COVID information site. There are 68 employees with active cases, and 57 employees are on leave because of COVID-19.

While most experts agree that vaccination is the best way to combat the virus, Johnson said the district will not be hosting any vaccine clinics or requiring that students take the shot.

“COVID-19 vaccines are not included in the Tennessee Department of Health’s immunization requirements for admission in schools and are not tracked by the district,” Johnson said.

Agriculture Secretary Announces Second Round of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Recovery Grants (Pennsylvania)

Today Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding opened applications for the second round of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) recovery support for poultry farmers and integrators who suffered losses in HPAI Control Zones (the 10-kilometer perimeter around an infected, quarantined farm).

Pennsylvania’s poultry industry contributes $7.1 billion to the economy and 26,600 jobs. Avian influenza directly impacted 17 poultry farms in Lancaster and Berks counties this spring and summer, causing a loss of more than 4.2 million birds. It also was recently detected in a backyard flock in Northampton County. The commonwealth’s new HPAI Recovery Reimbursement Grant Program provides $25 million to help bridge the gap for affected farmers and facilitate a path to recovery.

“Thanks to the work of Governor Tom Wolf and the General Assembly, we’re able to continue to roll out this $25 million recovery program to help Pennsylvania’s poultry industry recover from avian influenza,” said Redding. “Pennsylvania’s poultry producers and integrators recognize the ongoing threat to our food system due to upcoming wild bird migrations. Together, we remain vigilant. We’re prepared to continue fighting this threat.”

Abortion fund expanding services to Las Cruces  | The NM Political Report

In response to the new abortion clinics opening in Las Cruces, NMRCRC, which offers logistical help in the form of travel, hotel, food and an escort to the clinic, is looking to expand its services to the state’s second largest city to support those new clinics, Lamunyon Sanford said.

She said she could not project when the expansion will occur but the organization has started the initial steps by searching for a volunteer coordinator to work part-time in Las Cruces recruiting and training volunteers and coordinating patient logistics.

“I do really encourage people [to apply] if they’re really motivated right now,” Lamunyon Sanford said.

NMRCRC is one of four abortion fund providers in New Mexico. Each abortion fund provider in New Mexico offers slightly different services but the main point for each is to help abortion patients in need receive an abortion. For many patients of color, the cost of abortion, plus the logistics of childcare, travel and time off from work, can be overwhelming without abortion fund support, advocates have said.

A national network of abortion funds exist throughout the U.S.
