Trump Inquiry Fueled in Part by Concern Over Intelligence Sources – The New York Times

But documents retrieved from him in January included some marked “HCS,” for Human Intelligence Control System. Such documents have material that could possibly identify C.I.A. informants, meaning a general, sweeping declassification of them would have been, at best, misguided.

“HCS information is tightly controlled because disclosure could jeopardize the life of the human source,” said John B. Bellinger III, a former legal adviser to the National Security Council in the George W. Bush administration. “It would be reckless to declassify an HCS document without checking with the agency that collected the information to ensure that there would be no damage if the information were disclosed.”

C.I.A. espionage operations inside numerous hostile countries have been compromised in recent years when the governments of those countries have arrested, jailed and even killed the agency’s sources.

Last year, a top-secret memo sent to every C.I.A. station around the world warned about troubling numbers of informants being captured or killed, a stark reminder of how important human source networks are to the basic functions of the spy agency.

Sky Fire And Wildflower — Weekend Stories by Trishikh

In the circa of the simian 1980 AD, the ninth year of the duodecennial cycle of the Chinese zodiac calendar, under the auspicious sign of metal of the five elemental symbols, an old and weary traveller found his final resting place on the banks of the nearly frozen Gurudongmar Lake at an altitude of 17,800 […]

Ein bisschen Garten … A wee bit about the garden

Stella, oh, Stella

… This year I had for the first time gladiolas. Normally I don’t want them, because we usually have such a strong wind here. But, the bag with 24 (mixed colours) was on special offer … 😉 … Ich have planted them into pots…

Igualdade Feminina comigo!

War Shows Russia “Not A Peer Military To US” Or Even Smaller NATO Forces

What this eventually will mean as Ukraine marks a half year of war and continued independence is as uncertain as the conflict’s outcome. What’s clear is that rather than reassert Moscow as a global military power as Putin hoped, his decision to invade Ukraine has launched a profound rethink of Russia’s conventional capabilities. It also prompted further expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, with hitherto neutral Finland and Sweden resolving to join the military alliance.

Russia “is not a peer military to the US” or even smaller NATO forces, said Phillips O’Brien, professor of strategic studies at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. The war showed it “is not able to run complex operations in the way the British or French or Israelis can do, so in those terms it isn’t even a second tier military power.”

Ukraine has suffered extensive damage to infrastructure, towns and cities and heavy military casualties, while the conflict has forced millions to flee the country. Its economy is struggling.

Still, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has emerged as a defiant wartime leader able to rally his nation to inflict huge losses on Russia’s military, which was forced to retreat from around the capital, Kyiv, and regroup in the east.

The President Is On FIRE!

Filosofa's Word

I know that quite often people, even those within his own party, see President Joe Biden as too meek, too weak, not strong enough to stand up to the challenges before him, but I think if there was ever any doubt, his speech at the DNC rally yesterday should have put those doubts to bed!  Here are a few excerpts from that speech:

In 2020, you and 81 million Americans voted to save our democracy. That’s why Donald Trump isn’t just a former president. He is a defeated former president.

[Republicans] have made their choice to go backward, full of anger, violence, hate, and division. We’ve chosen a different path: Forward, the future, unity, hope, and optimism.

The whole notion of the burn-it-all-down politics and MAGA Republicans continues to be a drumbeat.

In this moment, those of you who love this country — Democrats, independents, mainstream Republicans — we must…

Florida: Charlie Crist Chooses Head of Miami Teachers Union as Running Mate!

Diane Ravitch's blog

Charlie Crist, the Democratic candidate for governor of Florida, will choose Karla Hernandez-Mats as his running mate, according to the Miami Herald. She is the president of the Miami-Dade teachers’ union. She is also a wonderful person. She is articulate and super-smart. I met her in Miami in February 2020 when I had an event to promote Slaying Goliath at Miami’s famous bookstore “Books & Books.” Karla interviewed me, and she was terrific.

Help Charlie Crist and Karla Hernandez-Mats defeat DeSantis, the man who censors books, bans discussions of racism and gender, opposes women’s right to an abortion, and wants to destroy public schools in Florida.

Help Florida join the 21st century!

Charlie Crist, the Democratic Party’s candidate for governor, has selected the head of Miami-Dade County’s teachers union as his running mate to take on Gov. Ron DeSantis in the fall, the Miami Herald has confirmed. Three sources briefed…

The court also heard evidence that, during F.M.’s arrest Grundy County in 2017, Bean punched F.M. in the face while F.M. was compliant, causing pain and other injuries. The court also heard evidence that Bean bragged about using excessive force against victims and failed to report his uses of force.
