loneliness is brutal

dusk failed to interpret the rain

I’m awake amongst the earthy smell

my fifth coffee

on the shiny wood surface


loneliness is without repose

no bough no shade

I lay down to sleep

allow myself to drift through the streets

I’m cloaked in black

the poem in my head is an umbrella

shielding me from the broken pieces of a storm

the falling raindrops from my eyes .


in the end

loneliness will be its own entombment

Chet baker will whisk it along .


leaving the brown wooden table behind

crossing the road

I will buy the lottery ticket

I will win an island  

a solace amidst the ocean

there I will plant a copse of loneliness

there I will live

to never…
