Justice Department Sues Idaho to Protect Reproductive Rights | OPA | Department of Justice

The complaint seeks a declaratory judgment that § 18-622 conflicts with, and is preempted by, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) in situations where an abortion is necessary stabilizing treatment for an emergency medical condition. The United States also seeks an order permanently enjoining the Idaho law to the extent it conflicts with EMTALA.

“On the day Roe and Casey were overturned, we promised that the Justice Department would work tirelessly to protect and advance reproductive freedom,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland.  “That is what we are doing, and that is what we will continue to do. We will use every tool at our disposal to ensure that pregnant women get the emergency medical treatment to which they are entitled under federal law. And we will closely scrutinize state abortion laws to ensure that they comply with federal law.”

“Federal law is clear: patients have the right to stabilizing hospital emergency room care no matter where they live,” said Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra. “Women should not have to be near death to get care. The Department of Health and Human Services will continue its work with the Department of Justice to enforce federal law protecting access to health care, including abortions.”

A Campanha Sinal Vermelho tem uma importância muito grande no combate à violência contra a mulher. Nós não podemos ser indiferentes a essa realidade. “O nós” que me refiro aqui, é no sentido de despertar enquanto sociedade para o problema. Nenhuma campanha é eficiente, se de fato, a sociedade não tiver maturidade para lidar com complexidade que ela exige, ou seja, àquilo que precisa ser trabalhado. E essa, assim como muitas outras campanhas voltadas à mulher, conta justamente, com a ajuda das pessoas para que o tema ganhe cada vez mais visibilidade.
A violência contra a mulher é algo que acaba nos deixando indignados, principalmente, quando sabemos que uma mulher foi assassinada de forma brutal. Então, mais do que o dever que, a mulher tem de denunciar, a sociedade também precisa apoiar essa causa. Should I  have titled this “Shame Shame Shame” or the title I finally used?  My empathy overcame my anger, I guess.

As Claire Moses reports in yesterday’s nytimes,  librarians are being given  grief by those who want to prevent others from reading certain books.  The Proud Boys, ushered in by police, ceremoniously prevented a children’s library story hour earlier, and Moses reported that a librarian in Texas quit after 18 years because she was harassed online. She moved out of state and took a job in tech.  I thought it was the other, non-democratic countries like Russia that put restraints on information.  I reckon it’s the result hof the saboteurs of our previous way of life. Moses doesn’t bring abortion into her discussion, but I do:
