IMAGINE: THIS RAPIST’S FOETUS IS MORE VALUED THAN I AM?

NANMYKEL.COM

Rape is horrifying and messy, and sometimes it’s easier to disbelieve that it happens at all. But that option isn’t open to victims of rape and sexual assault.

Denying rape means believing that victims are lying. It means denying their humanity and worth. And it’s a denial that has been made far too easy by thousands of years of habit.

The Week’s Best Cartoons 7/23

Filosofa's Word

It seems that these days the political cartoons are darker … but then, so is our political environment, so I suppose it’s natural.  At any rate, once again TokyoSand has culled some of the best from this past week … a week in which there was plenty of material, from the Secret Service supposedly erasing their text messages from January 5th and 6th, to Steve Bannon being found guilty of ‘Contempt of Congress’, to Thursday’s January 6th committee hearing that revealed much, although the cartoonists, understandably, seized on Josh ‘yellow-belly’ Hawley’s frantic escape!  Be sure to click the link at the bottom to see the rest of the ‘toons!  Thank you, TS, for gathering the cream of the crop for us every week!

How Do You Know?

bluejayblog

There is the question, “How do you know?” Frequently, it is used in the rhetorical sense–often times as a retort, during a quarrel. Tarde em Itapuã

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

” Um velho canção de banho

O dia pra vadiar

Um mar que não tem tamanho

E um arco-iris no ar

Depois, na Praça Caymmi

Sentir preguiça no corpo

E numa esteira de vime

Beber uma água de coco

É bom

Passar uma tarde em Itapuã

Ao Sol que arde em Itapuã

Ouvindo o mar de Itapuã

Falar de amor Itapuã…”

Toquinho. Tarde em Itapuã

♫ Something ♫ | Filosofa’s Word

Back in 2020, I played this song as part of a Beatles’ Week that I did at David’s suggestion.  Tonight it is not part of a week-long thing, but just one that I felt like playing for no particular reason!  George Harrison, sometimes referred to as the “quiet Beatle”, was greatly underappreciated, I think.  Most…
