Quick Savory Butter

snapshotsincursive

What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? Start Smart: Quick Savory Butter! For some time now we’ve gotten pretty spoiled by restaurants, bistros, and cafés serving compound butter with the artisan bread basket. You almost hear us clapping our hands as we sink our teeth into the savory herbs or sweet concoctions. I know it makes me feel special. Chefs have been creating compound butters for years, though. It’s one of the ways they save time and add a level of sophistication for the customer. In my own kitchen, I found it’s best to begin with unsalted butter. That way I can add just enough sea salt to tease the palate. Lemon, believe it or not, adds a hint of flavor that embellishes steak or seafood. I see you nodding your head in agreement. Although I began smearing this combination on rolls and crackers, I couldn’t resist warming it to pour over…

The Jolly Monday That Almost Wasn’t

Filosofa's Word

Good Monday morning friends!  Y’know … sometimes Jolly is really hard to find.  I was just about to give up on even posting a Jolly Monday, but I finally found Jolly and Joyful hiding in the clothes hamper upstairs!  I dragged them back downstairs and reminded them just how important it is, especially in these very trying times, to help our friends start their week with a smile, or perhaps even a chuckle.  And so, we all rallied to the cause and hope we can help start the week on a happy note for you all.  Now, Joyful is still a bit on the sad side, so I told her to keep the buffet simple this morning, but she insisted she was in the mood for comfort food.  Grab a plate … er, a bowl … and let’s find some things to smile about, shall we?

I made dis one…

Meet the couple that donated earnings to help poor families for 20 yrs

Blogger's World!

Who says you have to be Bill Gates and build a foundation did to help the poor. Meet an Indian coup, Shinod PC and Bindhu, who have been on a quest to aid disadvantaged families for 20 years. The couple from Kodungallur, Kerala, contribute a significant percentage of their salary as a ‘benefit pension’ to numerous underprivileged families in the surrounding villages.

They distributed money from their salaried salary as a monthly welfare benefit. After the government raised the amount given out as part of social welfare pension programs, many families were able to have a consistent monthly income.

The couple don’t keep a record of how much money they spend on charity, but disburse around Rs 20,000 in welfare pensions every month.

Other Important Rulings are Being Forgotten…

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

This topic, which is getting even less attention than the overturning of Miranda v. AZ ’66, may be nearly as important, over the long run (since the horrific state of affairs recently codified will be continued over the next generations by these rulings not being discussed as much):

“We have never previously held what the court holds today, namely that a state must use state funds” to finance private religious schools.

In her dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor pointed out that : “Today the court leads us to a place where separation of church and state becomes a constitutional violation.

Justice Department Sues Kansas Department of Health and Environment to Protect the Rights of a U.S. Army National Guard Member | OPA | Department of Justice

“This lawsuit reinforces the Justice Department’s strong commitment to protecting the rights of those who serve in our country’s armed forces,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “We owe a solemn duty to members of the National Guard and Reserve to act when any employer seeks to deny them an opportunity to earn a living because they are called to duty.”

“Any attempt to deny someone employment based upon their dedicated military service to this country is wrong and a violation of that person’s civil rights,” said U.S. Attorney Duston Slinkard for the District of Kansas. “It is the responsibility of the Justice Department to take action to support our servicemembers and we take that responsibility very seriously.”

Indigenous hope papal apology in Canada will push justice, healing in U.S. | Angelus News

A papal apology on Indigenous land in Canada is not irrelevant south of the border.

When Pope Francis visits Canada July 24-29, Oneida First Nation activist Daisee Francour and her colleagues at the U.S.-based international Indigenous nongovernmental organization Cultural Survival will be paying close attention.

“An apology for one nation, in a way it’s a win for all of our nations,” said Francour. “When I say nation, I mean that as an Indigenous community — not necessarily the nation state or colonial state.

“There’s a huge opportunity, because the Catholic Church is just such an influential institution globally. There’s a huge opportunity to leverage, influence and push nation states like the U.S. government to join this collective process for justice, toward truth and toward healing.”

Francour and her colleagues, Indigenous media across the United States and American religious orders and dioceses have been watching closely what has happened in Canada ever since more than 200 possible gravesites were detected at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School in May 2021. From the middle of the 19th century until the very recent past, the U.S. government financed and promoted more than 350 Indian boarding schools in 29 states.

Today the Minneapolis-based Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition is pushing state and federal governments, along with churches and religious orders who often operated the schools on the government’s behalf, to face up to a history of cultural genocide.

“As a country, we have yet to experience that apology,” said Francour. “I guess my hope is that with this apology to First Nations folk in Canada … I’m hoping that will radiate both in the United States and across the globe.”
