Historically Black Colleges and Universities Basketball Association Aims to Expand Pro Opportunities » URBN Social

With just one player in the National Basketball Association from a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) and three in the NBA G-League, the new HBCU Basketball Association hopes to broaden professional opportunities for players who attend or attended one of the legendary institutions.

The HBCUBA will host its inaugural season from February 2023 through June of 2023 with six teams in as many cities: Houston, Texas; Jackson, Mississippi; Birmingham, Alabama; Daytona Beach, Florida; Atlanta, Georgia; and New Orleans, Louisiana. The league will be for players 18 years and older that are not currently in the NBA or the G-League.

Australia now offers ‘game-changing’ self-test for cervical cancer. How does it work and why is screening important for women? – ABC News

In a major update to the National Cervical Screening Program, a self-collection method aims to revolutionize the way women react to cervical cancer testing.

This makes Australia the first country to offer self-testing swabs to women due for their screening.

After receiving instructions from your doctor, you will be shown to a private area within the medical practice.

There, you can take the swab yourself, without your doctor present.

Health expert Liz Ham says the procedure is far less invasive than the HPV test.

“You will be given a swab that you place into the vagina. You just turn it a number of times to collect the cells inside the vagina,” she said.

“After that, you take it out and give it back to your doctor.”

California Rep. Judy Chu among 181 arrested at D.C. abortion rights protest

“The decision to march today was easy — I came out to march for the young rape survivor, the woman who cannot afford to travel to another state to access critical care, the mother with an ectopic pregnancy whose life is in danger,” Chu wrote on Twitter.

Her account also showed a picture of the 68-year-old from Los Angeles being handcuffed by police officers. The photo was posted with the caption: “I’m not backing down-not now, not ever.”

Chu, the first Chinese woman voted into Congress, was first elected in 2009.

USDA Allocates Nearly $1B for Schools to Purchase U.S.-Grown Foods | Food Manufacturing

The Biden Administration announced Thursday that the U.S. Department of Agriculture will provide nearly $1 billion in additional funding to schools to support the purchase of American-grown foods for their meal programs.

The department also applauds the President’s recent signing of the Keep Kids Fed Act, which equips schools, summer meal sites, and child care food programs with extra resources so they can continue serving children through school year 2022-2023. Both actions are a response to the significant challenges child nutrition program operators continue to face, such as high food costs and supply chain disruptions.
