One thought on “Childhood Memories Stay Forever”

  1. I made a comment on the original post. The short version is that most memories aren’t accurate. Humans forget details quickly. (What did you eat for lunch on Monday?) That is, unless the event is something earthshaking. Plus we see the event only from one perspective and don’t know what it meant to others. The old standard, “The Way We Were”, really captures the uncertainty of the past well.
Memories can be a security blanket at times, but no good autobiographer relies just on his or her memory. Memories can also be a framework for mental illness, if we select only the horrors to recall. No, memory is a trickster, a jar of nitroglycerine that requires handling with extreme care.
