Avian Flu Is Infecting US Poultry Flocks. It Could Affect The Price Of Chicken, Too | LAist

The price of chicken breasts this week averaged $3.63 per pound at U.S. supermarkets — up from $3.01 a week earlier and $2.42 at this time last year, the Agriculture Department says.

This week an outbreak was confirmed at a commercial flock in Nebraska, causing 570,000 broiler chickens to be destroyed. In Delaware and Maryland, more than two million birds at commercial poultry flocks have been affected.

In South Dakota, an outbreak last week led to the killing of 85,000 birds. An outbreak confirmed March 14 at a commercial operation in Wisconsin meant more than 2.7 million egg-laying chickens were killed.

Humans eat and breath plastic. Plastic now has been found in the blood stream of humans. What in fact does this mean?

The short answer is that there are no studies on the subject. Certainly, the plastics industry doesn’t want to pay for research into the damage they are causing, and no one else has.

How does plastic get into our bodies?

  • Ocean plastic gets into seafood that we then consumer.
  • Ocean plastic gets into drinking water.
  • Micro plastic waste (defined as plastic less than 5 mm in size) can pass through water treatment systems and get into drinking water.
  • Plastic that is burned becomes air pollution that we breathe.
  • Plastic is in products that we use, including toothpaste.

What damage can small plastic particles do?
