Ukrainian medics in the crossfire | openDemocracy
Ukrainian healthcare workers have been working around the clock since Russia invaded the country on 24 February – and in unimaginable conditions. According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Health, by 16 March, Russian forces had attacked 43 ambulances and 117 hospitals. Ten of these hospitals cannot be repaired, Ukrainian officials stated.
Two weeks ago, Russian forces attacked a maternity hospital in Mariupol – the images of two pregnant women who were injured spread around the world. One of the women died, but the second gave birth to a girl, Veronika. Births in bomb shelters have become common, as have doing operations and evacuating seriously ill patients while under Russian shelling.

Evidence Grows That Vaccines Lower The Risk Of Getting Long COVID | LAist
The chance of even a mild case of COVID-19 turning into a long-term, debilitating medical condition is one of the greatest fears of Americans trying to navigate the pandemic, which is again taking a turn as new data shows the BA.2 subvariant is taking hold in the U.S.
Unfortunately, the only sure way to avoid long COVID is not to catch the virus in the first place.
But there is now a growing body of research that’s offering at least some reassurance for those who do end up getting infected — being fully vaccinated seems to substantially cut the risk of later developing the persistent symptoms that characterize long COVID.
While many of the findings are still preliminary, the handful of studies that have emerged in the past half year are telling a relatively consistent story.

Felicidade
E “o milagre” naturalmente acontece”.

Supreme Court Nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson.
The Novel: UnHoly Pursuit: Devil on my Trail
I’m sure by now, everyone has heard about the confirmation hearing of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. The woman has so many qualifications I can’t begin to list them all.
She’s the first of many: First nominee to have served as a federal public defender, first African America woman to be nominated are just a few of her firsts.
Having writing over five hundred decisions in ten years is quiet a feat. Seemed to me she has more qualifications than nominee ever nominated or confirmed.

Prior to 1916 the justices were not subjected to a confirmation hearing. They were simply shooed in by Congress and the president. Many had no legal training at all. Let alone had ever served a judge. Giving a genteel opinion is your local community did not qualify one to sit on the Supreme Court.
