Black History Month: A Very Noble Man … Mr. Dabney Montgomery

Filosofa's Word

In today’s environment, it would be easy to focus during Black History Month on the wrongs that have been done throughout our history and continue even today against Black Americans.  Certainly it is important to bring those stories to light, especially these days when some are trying to hide those parts of the nation’s history.  But to limit my posts to only those would be wrong, for there are so many true heroes throughout our history who deserve to be recognized, to be noted.  I first wrote this post on September 6th 2016, three days after the death of Mr. Dabney Montgomery, but last night I read it again and I think Mr. Montgomery deserves another spotlight, another round of applause.  So, without further ado, please allow me to tell you about Mr. Dabney Montgomery …

Covid-19: why Ômicron cannot be considered light? – Magic Mixture を

“But in those who are not vaccinated, the disease can evolve and reach the same serious symptoms as always, such as shortness of breath”, points out the doctor.

Another reason for not using the term “mild” to refer to Ommicron is the fact that it spreads around very quickly, contaminating the general.

silver trim

Develop. Inspire. Transform.

dreams leak from my eyes, the
sun shall find

a way into my heart, cresting over
the canopy, love bourgeons
through the
limbs

lining the contour
with silver trim,
cascading over
the land

giving dreams a second chance,
they arrive in my
hands

and
outstretched
across the void of time, we,
for each other,
stand

letting light guide the way, a
flutter or two, takes
center
stage

as we let love parade…

Rebuttals, The USNS Comfort, and critical thinking for Health Care

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

The common good, or the general welfare, requires a willingness to dig beneath the surface for the full facts, in order to form a more perfect and inclusive union for all of us.

Someone who told me just this morning that NY City did not, in fact, have it’s hospital system overrun by Covid in the spring, missed a crucial fact. When she asserted that the Mercy had 1100 beds, which went unused, and thus NY city’s hospital system did not collapse in March or April of this year, I replied that there must be more to the story than meets the eye. She continued to insist that non-Covid deaths are being labeled as Covid for some nefarious reason, and that the hospital systems there and in LA are just fine, since someone she knew went to the hospital (in San Diego) two weeks ago, and reported seeing only three…

Parashat Tetzaveh, and Inequality?

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

This week’s Torah portion is Parashat Tetzaveh.

This is the 20th  annual  cycle parashah, and the 8th in the book of Sh’mot/Exodus.

This week, everyone will hear something about the Cohanim, or the priesthood.  This is a holdover from a time in human history when the rule of law needed to be reinforced via mysticism.  There is more to it, but this is the key to our current societal need to build empathy and respect for one another: hierarchy has its uses, but by this time, we human beings have the tools to build an egalitarian and respectful society that is kind to all.

We can  Do Better.

Alphabet soup for the soul vol.2 –“S”

Words from Walden

S is for Surrender

“When we surrender, we open to more possibilities than we can even visualize or imagine for ourselves” -Kute Blackson-

Life is a journey and the best way is to experience is to surrender and let go. Expect nothing and accept everything.

Last year, I chose surrender as the theme of my year.

I can not begin to tell you how many amazing things happened when I surrendered. There were many times when I didn’t want to or didn’t feel like doing something but I reminded myself to surrender and that is always when the magic occurs.

When we make our plan but then surrender the outcome, we have done our part in the creation process.

Maybe it happens the way we want and maybe it does not, but we can stand tall with our head held high knowing that we dideverything we could do and let…
