Reality

Are we present with ourselves at all times or are we consumed by greed and jealousy? We are all creative beings working in alignment with the Universe. We are creators of our own world. Spending our time and energy worrying about what other people are doing keeps us from creating our own reality.

Federal agencies must test unvaccinated workers weekly starting in February, Biden administration says – The Washington Post

Federal agencies must start testing unvaccinated employees at least weekly for the coronavirus by Feb. 15, the Biden administration said in new guidance issued Tuesday.

The testing, which mainly affects those exempted from President Biden’s vaccination mandate for federal workers, would be required during any week in which those employees “work onsite or interact in person with members of the public as part of their job duties,” the guidance says.

Agencies are also free to require more frequent testing for certain occupations or work settings, the administration says.

How plant-based diets not only reduce our carbon footprint, but also increase carbon capture – Leiden University

Almost 100 billion tons of CO₂ could be pulled out of the atmosphere by the end of the century. That is, if high-income countries switch to a plant-based diet. The double carbon profit of returning farmland to its natural state would equal about 14 years’ worth of agricultural emissions, researchers from Leiden University write in Nature Food.

The area needed for animals to graze and growing feed is huge. It takes up about 80% of all agricultural land or about 35% of the total habitable land in the world. An international research team, led by scientists at Leiden University, calculated that if high-income nations moved away from animal products, much less land would be needed to grow food. Vast areas could then revert to their natural state, with wild plants and trees drawing carbon from the atmosphere.

‘It is perhaps one of the biggest environmental health opportunities out there,’ said lead author Zhongxiao Sun at the China Agricultural University. ‘A rapid shift to these diets could really help society stay within environmental limits.’

Giving thanks

Petchary's Blog

“Giving thanks” for Jamaicans basically means “being grateful.”

Our recent Bloganuary prompt (yes, I am still trying to catch up!) was: “What are five things you’re grateful for today?”

Today and every day I am grateful for:

First and foremost: My family, and especially my husband and my son. I don’t know how they put up with me. They are all saints. Especially my husband. PS Family includes our dogs, Freddie and Lulu.

Second: A roof over my head, enough food to eat and water to drink and bathe in. So many in this country (yes) and round the world do not have one or more of these basic necessities.

Third: My health. I have awful teeth (my dentist probably does a mental eye-roll when she sees me approaching her chair) and two broken wrists (the best orthopedic surgeon in the Universe fixed them both for me). But it…

COVID protests in Germany: Orchestrated anger | Germany | News and in-depth reporting from Berlin and beyond | DW | 11.01.2022

The masterminds behind the protests are proceeding strategically. The right-wing extremist group “Free Saxons” kept announcing more and more simultaneous marches on Mondays, with the intention to deliberately overwhelm the police. The far-right extremists use chat groups on the encrypted messaging app Telegram to organize the protest action and incite hatred. Police officers are insulted as militias and mercenaries. Politicians and opponents are declared enemies of the people. The protesters are also increasingly receiving support from the populist far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, some of whose members have been classified as anti-constitutional and are under observation by the domestic intelligence agency.

Protest against the COVID deniers

Freiberg resident Sybill Matthes is worried about developments in her city. “We don’t treat each other with respect as we used to do,” she says. She complains that politicians and police should have banned gatherings much sooner to nip developments in the bud. “It almost got out of hand,” remarks Sybill Matthes, who is now taking to the streets in counterprotest.
