Bitcoin Plunges, IMF Urges El Salvador to Drop It – Havana Times
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has urged El Salvador to stop using Bitcoin as their legal tender, due to “high associated risks”. The IMF statement, released on Tuesday, January 25, represents a setback to President Nayib Bukele, an enthusiastic promotor of the cryptocurrency.
The IMF executive board strongly advised the Salvadoran government to end the official use of Bitcoin, a policy the Bukele government adopted in September. They stressed that there are “large risks associated with the use of Bitcoin on financial stability, financial integrity, and consumer protection, as well as the associated fiscal contingent liabilities.”
The IMF statement “urged the authorities to narrow the scope of the Bitcoin law by removing Bitcoin’s legal tender status.”

Portugal general election: PM Antonio Costa wins surprise outright majority | Portugal | The Guardian
Defying all odds, Portugal’s ruling centre-left Socialists won an outright parliamentary majority in Sunday’s snap general election, securing a strong new mandate for the prime minister, Antonio Costa.
The result, boosted by a higher than expected turnout despite the coronavirus pandemic, came as a surprise after the Socialists had lost most of their advantage in recent opinion polls. It means Portugal will have a stable government to oversee the application of EU pandemic recovery funds.

Abia în 2016 s-a deschis pentru public Palacio de las Duenas, reședința Casei de Alba, ilustră familie nobiliară spaniolă.
Identific cu greu intrarea, printre numeroasele edificii imaculate sclipind în lumina de ianuarie în contrast cu verdele intens al vegetației andaluze.
Palatul gotic-renascentist cu influențe în stil plateresc și mudejar construit în secolele 15-16 a preluat numele mănăstirii de călugărițe care, prin tradiție, asigurau serviciile religioase ale reginelor și aristocratelor de rang înalt.
Urmașă a acestora, Cayetana de Alba, ducesa descendentă a regelui catolic al Scoției, Angliei și Irlandei, James Stuart, a locuit în palat toată viața, până în 2014.
Înaintașii ei pasionați de călătorii au contribuit la realizarea unei admirabile colecții de obiecte de artă din toată lumea, parțial expuse.
Doar câteva încăperi și grădinile pot fi vizitate, pentru că reședința este încă locuită.

Adams Announces Qualifying New Yorkers Can Get Free COVID-19 Pill Treatment Delivered To Their Door – Gothamist
New York City will deliver antiviral pills to treat COVID-19 for free to residents who test positive and are at high risk for serious illness.
“We want to make sure no one with COVID has to move throughout the city, especially for those who have [sic] immune-compromised, or our elderly. We want to bring it to you,” Mayor Eric Adams said Sunday during a press conference at the Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized two antiviral pills for emergency use last month: Paxlovid made by Pfizer, which is headquartered in the city, and molnupiravir made by New Jersey-based Merck. City officials said they have acquired both brands, which are taken daily for five days to reduce the amount of virus in the body and prevent symptoms from worsening.

While still the largest streaming service by far, Spotify has been slowly losing market share to its rivals. Podcasts were meant to reverse that slide but they could make things worse by thrusting Spotify on to the culture-war frontline. While the company has presumably calculated that the financial benefit of sticking with Rogan outweighs the reputational cost, many users have cancelled their premium subscriptions. “The company’s bullshit is just too much to bear now,” tweeted the popular YouTube music critic Anthony Fantano.
