Zaštićena oblast Gvanakasta, Kostarika – Area de Conservación Guanacaste, Costa Rica

Between August and December, 250,000 turtles arrive at Naranhoa and Nancy beaches to lay their eggs. The locals call this event arivada , although it is more reminiscent of a real invasion. But there is no better place in Central America to watch a scene like this. First come the green turtles ( Chelonia mydas ), soon followed by numerous olive tortoises ( Lepidochelys olivacea ), and then those of the giant soft armor ( Dermochelys coriacea)). To prevent the disturbance of these creatures, the Pacific Ocean zone is protected twenty kilometers towards the open sea, and the Guanacaste Protected Area, established by the Costa Rican government in 1989, includes beaches and vast coastal plains, and even stretches across the Cordillera Guanacaste mountain range to the Atlantic.

Myrela

Environmental destruction in San San, Portland, Jamaica: What a travesty

Petchary's Blog

There is a very beautiful area of Jamaica, often described as “lush,” which we have been visiting for around forty years or so now, in the eastern part of the island. It is in the parish of Portland. I have written, shared photos, brought family and friends to stay, spent many happy hours in the area. Every year, BirdLife Jamaica makes a pilgrimage to the area, enjoying a long weekend of birdwatching and companionship, and taking a dip in crystal-blue seas. The place has magic and mystery.

A Jamaican Tody, photographed by me during one of our excursions birdwatching in San San.

The main road is bumpy, narrow and pot-holed, and the surface certainly has been in need of repair for some years. In fact, a few years back I wrote about the neglectthe area in general has suffered for some years. The elite hide and enjoy themselves in…

Medical Council has ‘zero tolerance’ for anti-vax messages from doctors as it receives 23 complaints | RNZ News

When asked if that time frame was too long, Walker said “what I will say is that at all stages the public protected. So if we see that there’s harm being done by a doctor’s conduct or practice or misinformation, in these cases we will institute measures such as requesting or requiring the doctor to cease doing what it is that they’re doing and that can include suspending a doctor while the investigations take place so that the public is protected as we work our way through the cases”.
