A petition to try to repair the damage caused by road works in beautiful San San, Portland

Petchary's Blog

For me, the worst thing is the total lack of consultation with the community. Not even an attempt to do so. For that reason alone, I ask you to kindly sign the petition created by resident Marc Goodman regarding the destruction of the once lovely hillside above the Blue Lagoon (Blue Hole) beauty spot.It is here.

Some may say a petition does not have any impact, it is too late, etc. However, it is important to make one’s voice heard. If nothing else – protest! So please, do sign and share.

The green hillside cut back for the South Coast Highway Project. It appears that they are not quite done yet, from this picture provided by Marc Goodman.

Mr. Goodman has petitioned the Chairman of the National Works Agency (NWA) to try and ameliorate the devastation of the once lovely hillsides – even though the damage has already…

Douglas Munro, Coast Guard Hero – Intermission Story (24)

Pacific Paratrooper

Painting of Doug Munro providing support from his LCP, by Bernard D’Andrea

The United States Coast Guard was founded on a tradition of taking small boats into dangerous conditions to save lives. This skill made Coast Guard coxswains an indispensable part of the Pacific Theater  and Smitty would whole-heartedly agree.  Coast Guardsmen proved their worth time and time again as they expertly handled small landing craft in and out of almost any situation. No man better exemplifies this prowess than Douglas A. Munro.

Signalman 1st Class, Douglas Munro

Born in Vancouver in 1919, Douglas Munro attended Cle Elum High School in Washington state.  He attended the Central Washington College of Education for a year before enlisting in the Coast Guard in 1939. He spent his first two years on board the Cutter Spencer,  a 327-foot Treasury-class cutter which patrolled out of New York, and later Boston.

Fiberactive Germination: Rich textile art by nine Jamaican women

Petchary's Blog

Tucked away in a rather unprepossessing small business plaza at 2 Windsor Avenue in Kingston, you will find a small gallery named CreativSpace. As you open the door, the deep blood red of Kadeen Williams’ womb-shaped “Feritility” hanging on the bright, white walls will immediately catch your eye.

Kadeen Williams, “Fertility” (2019). Williams is a young mother; this is part of her “Femininity” series.

Now, if this gets you going right away, you might like to know that Williams will be conducting a workshop this coming Saturday for mothers and children of all ages (no matter the age and the type of relationship). The aim is to partner together and create a tapestry as part of a social bonding process. Parents may also attend the workshop alone and create something for their children and vice versa. Details are below. Note – several other artists are conducting workshops during the exhibition
