Wet’suwet’en Urgent Update

LANDBACK Friends

The arrest of Chief Dsta’hyl occurred just a few hours ago. The only news are the following tweets and Facebook posts. Supporters are asked to do what they can now. “We need boots on the ground!”

There have been many conflicts and arrests of Wet’suwet’en people by militarized Royal Canadian Mounted Police. There are heightened tensions now as construction of the Coastal GasLink pipeline has reached the point of drilling under the sacred headwaters of the Wedzin Kwa river. U of Toronto researchers create mirror-image peptides that can neutralize SARS-CoV-2

Researchers at the University of Toronto have created chemical compounds that can neutralize SARS-CoV-2 and several of its variants.

In a recent paper published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, the researchers report the creation of D-peptides that neutralize the virus and stop infection of cultured human cells.

Known as mirror-image peptides, the compounds have chemical properties that make them suitable for the development of low-cost antiviral therapeutics.

“A big advantage of mirror-image peptides is their long stability and that they are relatively cheap to produce,” says Philip Kim, senior author of the study and a professor of molecular genetics and computer science at the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research at U of T’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine.

“You could imagine them being formulated as a nasal spray to take prophylactically to prevent infection from occurring.”

Lê Vĩnh Tài | SAIGON IN LOCKDOWN (29/56)

SONGNGUTAITRAM

By Lê Vĩnh Tài, translated by Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

no one believes in death

you do not believe in it either

someone will come and steal your breath

not your life long possessions

you don’t have a grave either

where they save guard us in the heart of the earth

you turn into a handful of dust

ready to be born again

we shall rise above the nine heavens

you’ve once dreamed of

an adventure full of regret

if only it was your turn to use the respirator

you’re left behind long ago

you just didn’t know

we all cry to you said our goodbyes

so if you’re sad

it’s just regretful that your grandfather was no one of importance

so you may wade through

another dream

In seventh veteran car heaven

Stella, oh, Stella

… My parents called this kind of car “Snowwhite’s coffin”. Weren’t they actually called “Isetta”? I just looked it up, Isetta by BMW (!!!)

… Also this exhibition was part of Egeskov castle on Fyn. I went amok with my camera in the car hall, as mentioned before, and have only chosen the most interesting ones (in my opinion).

… Let us start with some great old pickup trucks.

… This was not a hearse, but a blacksmith’s car.

Cockpit Country Stakeholders reject “inadequate” EIA for bauxite mining permit

Petchary's Blog

The issue of Cockpit Country has not disappeared. Many concerns remain. Stay tuned. This is from Jamaica Environment Trust (click on the link to the Final EIA mentioned below):

We, the undersigned members of the Cockpit Country Stakeholders Group (CCSG), reject the Final Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for SML 173, now available on the website of the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA). We are at a loss to understand how this substandard document could have been accepted by the state agency with responsibility for public health and the environment.

We understand that deliberations on the granting of an environmental permit to allow bauxite mining adjacent to the Cockpit Country Proposed Protected Area are imminent, so we do not have the luxury of conducting a line by line examination. But the matter is of great importance as the area of SML 173 is within the boundary proposed by the…
